Teachers for the most part choose this profession because this is what they love to do.

However, one never realizes how much work goes into being a teacher. My boyfriend is a middle school teacher and he goes in an hour before class starts and stays an hour after school hours grading papers and at times that's not enough and he has to bring some work home. This is only for the classroom setting. Then there's the extra paper work the school has you fill out, the conferences, the meetings, the children's attitude, the danger that some teachers have to face now with all this school violence, and again the additional paperwork. You have paperwprk for everything and anything they can think of. Then you have the ESE children where you have to constantly be recording any unusual behaviors or reporting when they go out of line. That's not all, then they have to answer e-mails that parents write concerning their kids, my boyfriend gets at least 20 e-mails a day from parents asking important questions and ridiculous questions. Then you have the phone calls you have to return to the parents, etc.

If you're a teacher that cares, then there's the extra credit work you give out, which for the teacher, is extra work, but because of their love for their profession and their wanting to help children out they go ahead and give themselves that extra work.

Dealing with the parents is the biggest nightmare, I used to teach and I hated having to talk to parents because no matter how problematic their child may be at home and school, their child is always an angel or they tell you straight out "he/she is just a kid, they go through these phases." There's no respect, from some parents, for the teacher or for the classroom setting anymore.

I believe teachers have every right to complain about the pay because they're doing more than what they love, teaching.

Besides, why would you want to do something you don't like? That just leads you to have a miserable time at work everyday for the rest of your life, and complaining about the salary as well as how much you hate your job.

That is a bit of a generalisation. Actually most teachers I know find the work load much more of a problem than the money. Teachers teach because it is a vocation, generally they enjoy the work. As for cash yes I would love to earn enough to buy my house but then I guess I would have to get a job I did not like and spend my life complaining about that.

Most teachers teach for the love of it...not for the money. However, just like any job, not getting paid what you deserve, gives you the right to complain.

I love my job and wouldn't give it up for the world. However, it 's sad that on a teacher's salary I qualify for things like WIC and Reduced Lunch for my children.

Low pay is actually what is keeping good teachers out of the teaching profession. They are turning to other jobs because of the money. SAD!

Or the society we live in could possibly value the job that educators do and compensate them accordingly. When you become a teacher and the first couple of years you make little more than the poverty level, I think it's valid that you can complain about your salary.

Because for a good majority of them teaching is what they love to do - and they wanted to pick a job after university that they would enjoy. They never expected to not get proper raises unlike every other profession going.
