I am taking 1 summer class (I cant take anymore cuz im broke and need to work more)....but my question is, do you think I will be able to handle 19 units in the fall? Has anyone else done this?

my husband wants to attend our local community college to get a bussines degree. I support him all the way and want him to get a better career, instead of a dead end job that pays nothing. The thing is he is border line mentally challenged. He has a bad speech problem, he can read and learn quickly. He has lots of problems spelling, but i have worked with him a lot over the last year. When he went to sign up for college the special needs counselor said college wasn't for him. The college has a policy called "right to try". He was so embarresed about what that lady said, that he won't even consider going back after a year of getting some help. He has been tested over the last 6 months and his doctor said he could go to college. The doctor said it may be hard, but give it a try. I don't know how to talk him in on going back up to the college, he fears that lady will say something to make him feel dumb again. Any suggestions?

I am doing an assignment for MSTU2003 (maybe there are some people who have gone to University of Queensland) called a Discourse Map. We had to get an article on health and draw a discourse map and then talk about it in 750 words. I thought I knew what i was doing until i actually started writting. It's due monday and i'm totally lost.

Basicially my lecturer has said that: Discourse is "what is said, considered as a social act"...which i don't exactly get. Can anyone explain discourse to me in laymans terms?

Way back when I was a freshmen in college, I was knee-deep in condoms because all of the organizations and faculty constantly barraged everyone with free ones during orientation. I didn't really use of them, the whole idea seemed pretty indecent to me. It was as though the school has to make is absolutely impossible for any freshmen to get through their first year in college without getting a whole bag of free condoms and lubes, and getting laid. I never fully understood this -- Why would a state university devote so much money and efforts toward the promotion and contribution of sexual promiscuity? Why don't they stop this? I found this not only offensive, but also repulsive. It is just like they are saying, "This is college, and you're free to do whatever you want, so go get laid now -- because we won't accept you if you don't." I don't understand -- don't they realize that they are actually reversing firm moral grounding that some parents worked for years to build in their kids

I have a list of some 16 schools that interest me. I know that is too many to apply to (is it?) and I need to narrow down my list? How do I eliminate schools when so many colleges appeal to me? How many schools do I apply to?

I am currently a freshman in college and am looking at all types of majors. Currently, I am leaning toward a business degree, but I have very little experience with business or finance of any kind. What exactly does a finance major entail, and is it a big setback that I know very little about the field?

I've gotten into several PhD programs in the basic sciences (biology/biomedical). I got into some really good ones, some good ones, and some that were safety net schools. I'm currently trying to decide between two programs...

-One is ranked 2nd by the Chronicles of Higher Ed and 8th by the NIH in terms of funding. They expect to be moving up on both lists because they are getting a new chairperson who has LOTS of NIH funds. So needless to say, it's a great school. It's been one of those I wanted to go to ask an undergrad, but didn't.

-The other is a grad program based at a hospital. It's probably more of the type of research I'd like to do, as compared to the first. This one is also in Sourthern Califonia...so the weather is wayyyy better. But--it's not as reputable as number one.

After grad school, I'm either going to med school or getting a job doing research/teaching. Which do you think I should pick given what I want to do? By the way, both are giving me full financial support.

Hi guys I really need your help... I got a letter today from NYU Stern School of Business inviting me and my family to University Day Reception. It says we are invited to visit in mid April and it says its for students admitted to class of 2011. However, I have no indication if I have been accepted or not. Can anyone clarify or does anyone know if this means I was accepted... if I can find out somewhere... or is it just incase I get accepted that I can go? Thanks so much I'm quite nervous!

I went to Long Beach State for a year, and flamed out. So I decided to come back home, attend a JC, and transfer to a school in my area. Will those bad grades be part of my overall transfer GPA, even if I'm not including them as part of my transferable units? I need 60 units to transfer, and I should have that number after my next semester. I did 27 units at Long Beach, and only completed 12. My GPA as it stands without those grades is a 3.6, with them it plummets to a 2.4. The applications say something about being in good standing with your LAST school. But I'm still not sure. If anyone who has experienced this, or works as a counselor could provide me with an answer, that would be appreciated.
