Everyone will tell you that it's never too late to start. I'm 33 yrs old and still trying to get my bachelor's. You're still a baby. Anyway, you may never be able to get a civil service job with the government and you may never be able to work in hospitals or with children or even to join the Army, but I know it's possible to get a job with certain companies because my brother who committed a felony when he was your age (grand theft) is now a computer engineer working as a executive for some big company making like a $100,000 per year. If you're good enough, companies will ignore the felony and keep you on their staff if you prove them (trust) worthy. Good luck and don't give up on yourself!!

As far as choice of fields - talk to a guidance couselor. That's what they are supposed to be there for.
As far as age - yes it might feel odd to start with, but my goodness - you really won't be the only one.
I went to college for 4 years - went to work for a couple - then went back to college for a teaching degree. It was a little odd at first, but truly you'll find people there both younger and older than you. The really difficult part is getting back into the habit of studying again. And if you are working that can eat into your study time. You'll have to get used to a stricter schedule.
As far as age goes, I take a few classes every few years. (Yes I like school). Even though I've been in classes with students 30 years younger than I, it's still no problem and I'm still not always the oldest in class.
Good Luck and Have Fun!

Look, at 24, or 104 going to college is still a good idea. It will be wierd for you but if you want to get ahead in life its a god idea to go to college and start your life better. Your conviction will go against you but you served your time and going to college is the first best step at making your life better. Go...get your degree...
You may not be able to become a teacher or a Lawyer but you could try for Paralegal, Nursing, EMT, Physician's Assistant. Forensics, IT (If you're into computers), Administration what ever you're interested in...the best thing to do is ask your family and friends and even the professors at the college you're planning on attending can help you figure out what you wanna do. Just stick with it.

yo man, first and most important keep your head up as they say. ill be 25 in a few days and i just started. similiar backround as yours but never been caught. I had the age problem too for a bit. i think the hardest part for me is relearning how to become a good student. In grade school and high school i never cared about anything. now that i actually care its been a pain tring to ignore my old habbits but slowly im changing for the better. college is great so many different things you learn and people youll interact with. dont play the "what if" game with yourself it will get you nothing and as far as the future goes, it isnt here yet and your future is what you make it. As hard as school is for me and as much as peole think im b.s.in i will go to med school in the future and i will get those two letters before my name. not to bad for a drug addict F@#$ up. hit me up on AIM or YIM if you want to chat "farms10glow" goodluck bro

Look at that Judge Mathis guy...when he was a kid, he shot at policemen, he sold heroin and he purse snatched from white people. Now he is a judge. You're criminal past will make it harder for you than it would for others to succeed, but it can be done if you put your mind to it.
(by the way, i went back to school at 29, and like you i felt embarrassed my first 2 days or so, but you get over it quickly. People dont judge you in college like they did in high school. I actually had a woman in one of my classes that was in her 70s. Trust me, you wont be the oldest one there and people dont read minds...they dont know what year you are and you dont wear letter jackets with your graduating year on your sleeve like high school.
But first, look inside yourself and figure out what you want to do with your life because alot of people just start college and dont use their degree when they get out. (50% of them) Its not enough to say "you want a good job" You have to find out what makes you happy and go for it.

There are more people in college at 24 then you think there is. You may feel uncomfortable at first but it won't last long.
