Way back when I was a freshmen in college, I was knee-deep in condoms because all of the organizations and faculty constantly barraged everyone with free ones during orientation. I didn't really use of them, the whole idea seemed pretty indecent to me. It was as though the school has to make is absolutely impossible for any freshmen to get through their first year in college without getting a whole bag of free condoms and lubes, and getting laid. I never fully understood this -- Why would a state university devote so much money and efforts toward the promotion and contribution of sexual promiscuity? Why don't they stop this? I found this not only offensive, but also repulsive. It is just like they are saying, "This is college, and you're free to do whatever you want, so go get laid now -- because we won't accept you if you don't." I don't understand -- don't they realize that they are actually reversing firm moral grounding that some parents worked for years to build in their kids

If your parents gave you a great moral foundation against premarital sex than you should have no problem disregarding the condoms.

The fact is, many college students are sexually active, so why not make sure they are being safe? They don't want students to get STDs or get pregnant, and it probably comes out of the Student Health Center budget.

BTW, all the sex-ed type programs in my college had an underlying theme of don't do anything you don't want to do... which should not make socially conservative people feel left out. My religious friend was just fine with those programs.

Oh and if latex had pores big enough to allow viruses through, then it would have to let water through. If you fill up a condom with water and it doesn't leak, that proves that viruses (thousands of times bigger than a water molecule) can't get through either.

I think you misunderstood. Colleges give out condoms in order to promote safe and healthy sexual activity, not sexual promiscuity. In the past people had sex in college even though it was considered improper. People risked becoming pregnant, getting sexually transmitted diseases or being dis-owned by their parents, but they still did it. The fact is that most people are having sex by the time they get to college. Maintaning a moral high ground and avoiding the topic has only proven to be more destructive than it is productive. Ignorance of the risks inherent with sex has lead to the spread of AIDS, unwanted pregnancies and needless stress and anxiety. AIDS and population growth is rampant in the least educated countries, not in countries were condoms are given out at college. Modern educated countries believe in people's ability to learn and make appropriate choices for their own lives. Your college is not telling you to have sex, they are saying that if you do it you should be smart. In the end we all benefit. By thinking for our selves and making educated choices we can all live happier more fulfilling lives while avoiding sexually transmitted disease and unwanted pregnancies. I, for one, am not married and I have had many relationships and as a result I have had sex a fair bit. I've never had an STD and I've never had an unwanted pregnancy. I am very happy working as a University Lecturer (I'm no longer a student). I hope to marry my girlfriend and when the time is right we plan to have a child. We will have that child when we have enough money saved, when we feel we are mature enough and when we feel secure with our jobs. I thank my parents and the education system for being so honest with me about the nature of sex.

Where are you from? I mean which country? I have'nt heard anything like this before! I live in a conservative country :( may that is why!!! It seems that you are living in a libearted country.Listen your fellow countrymen/women are habituated with this kind of thing. So you can't do anything to prevent them. What you can do is protest against "sexual promiscuity" with valid reason.
