At most colleges with which I am familiar, the grade of N means "No Grade Entered," which means that the professor has not entered the student's grade into the system.
At many colleges, most students (except first-year students and students on academic probation) get an N as their midterm grade, since most grades are not calculated until the end of the semester.
If you have received an N at the end of the semester, it just means that the professor has not gotten around to entering all the grades yet.

A " N" grade usually Indicates that the student is making satisfactory progress and a final grade will be given at the end of the quarter the work is completed. Used only for thesis, research, and hyphenated courses (courses not completed in one quarter) and courses numbered 600, 601, 700, 750, and 800. An "N" grade carries with it no credit or grade until a regular grade is assigned.

Not sure Chrissy-- but I'll take an "educated guess"-- I think it means-- "NOT COMPLETE(D)?? same as us "old men" getting an " I " for "Incomplete" back in the 60's and 70's...
