Two years ago, while I was doing my masters, my professor slapped me across the face, because she said I "scared her", when I made a loud noise (there were three witnesses). I didn't turn her in because she was in chair on my thesis committee. She ended up making my second year of my masters program hell for me, trying to sabatoge my thesis "the chair of my department had to talk to her about her conduct". I was then afraid to talk about the incident because she was my reference for jobs in my field. After getting my job, I was afraid to ask for a reference because of the fact that she would write a horrible letter of reccomendation for my PhD program. However, now that I have been accepted into a good PhD program, I feel safe enough to lodge a complaint. Am I going about this too late? I hold no malice toward her, I just think she should be reprimanded what she has done (her wrath has been against other students besides myself). Please let me know what you think.

since you apply to college early in the fall, (i think?) do colleges ever see your list of courses/grades/etc for senior year? and is freshman year really that important? which year counts the most in h.s.? also, is it beneficial to take accelerated courses over the summer for extra credits at a local college/university? do colleges like to see this?

I'm not planning on applying to Harvard or anything when I'm a senior, but I was just wondering: is Harvard overrated? When people usually picture it, they picture pure bliss, those magnificent Ivy colored walls, and all that stuff. Is it a load of crap? Or is Harvard really the finest learning institution in the world? Just out of curiosity, is Yale or Harvard better?

UCAS didn't mention anything specific to American students and I was just wondering. All of the universities say that I have to have my application number to ask them a question thru email which is in the welcome letter that may take weeks to arrive since I'm overseas.

for anyone who attends/did attend tufts university or a school similar to it:

what is the most important factor that admissions officers consider? besides grades and ACT/SAT scores..

let's say you maintain an average 3.6-3.7 GPA throughout high school, take a slew of AP courses, do well on the ACT, and write a brilliant unique admissions essay, would you most likely get in??and what if you play 2 sports??

I live in the US and have a good friend in Haiti. I would really like to get him in college here in the US as an exchange student. How would I go about doing that? I know there was an exchange student from Haiti when I was in college a few years back, so it can be done. I don't even know where to start. He's in his last year of high school right now and he is top of his class.

I'm currently applying to universities (in Ontario, Canada-- mainly McMaster and Waterloo)... and I can't decide between Civil or Mechanical engineering. I've done so much researching into both areas, but I don't know any engineers personally, to ask questions... Anyone have any pros and cons for civil and mechanical engineering? any advice towards which one is better? (to anyone with experience in the programs in school or in the work force) And being female, what kind of competition should I be expecting?

I'm stressing out there!! I'm in college and classes are cancelled Wednesday for Thanksgiving break. I orginially had 2 classes on Tuesday, one from 8:00-9:50 and the other at 12:30-1:45. My 8:00 class was cancelled and since I hate my 12:30 class (and it's seriously pointless!)...I was going to skip it and go home tomorrow instead! However, I just got an email from my teacher, for my 12:30 class, saying we're going to be doing this reference thing on Tuesday and we should not be absent! In this class, we make up our own assignments and due dates and we haven't gotten a grade for anything yet (I guess we turn it all in the end)...I don't do anything in that class because I have all my projects on my computer and the only reason we go to that class is to work with your group (if you're doing a group project) or if you need the teacher's help. He says he wants to check our reference list, but I don't think we're going to get a grade for having it...

How do i get into Princeton? I'm a sophmore in Highschool and i'm guessing my GPA is at about a 3.3, but i do lots of extra curriculars like marching band, concert band, french club, student council and i help out with the school play. I'm also in many honors classes. I know my GPA isn't a 4.0, but is there any chance at getting into Princeton University in the future?

I am a senior in high school with a 3.8 GPA. I have slacked off and missed my deadline for my college of choice. I am distracted lately by family problems with drugs and divorce. I think that if i went to college now i would not focus, and would fail out. I haven't travelled anywhere in my life, but have always wanted to go to europe. I am thinking that i want to go to europe next october for 2 months with a eurail pass, come back, and work to earn back money for college. (i have to pay my own way). Do you think this is a viable option? Also, how can i propose this to my parents who want me to go straight to college in the fall?
