Two years ago, while I was doing my masters, my professor slapped me across the face, because she said I "scared her", when I made a loud noise (there were three witnesses). I didn't turn her in because she was in chair on my thesis committee. She ended up making my second year of my masters program hell for me, trying to sabatoge my thesis "the chair of my department had to talk to her about her conduct". I was then afraid to talk about the incident because she was my reference for jobs in my field. After getting my job, I was afraid to ask for a reference because of the fact that she would write a horrible letter of reccomendation for my PhD program. However, now that I have been accepted into a good PhD program, I feel safe enough to lodge a complaint. Am I going about this too late? I hold no malice toward her, I just think she should be reprimanded what she has done (her wrath has been against other students besides myself). Please let me know what you think.

I would send the school a letter detailing what has happened to you. Let them know that you would like an investigation to happen through their EEO process. If they give you the cold shoulder, contact the EEOC and find out your rights.

Technically, your professor isn't meant to the touch you in any way, it extremely is a factor of the hot 0 tolerance regulations that have been taken up in each college. additionally if he grabbed you problematical adequate to depart bruises then it substitute into no longer a extensive-unfold thank you to get someones interest. in case you have felt uncomfortable around this professor in the past then i could say you may checklist this. in case you think of it substitute into only a one time element and your no longer too disillusioned then possibly you're ultimate to depart or no longer it extremely is, its hit or omit, you are able to say something to him and he might say sorry and each little thing must be wonderful, or you should assert something to him and reason a great rift and make your class that plenty harder for you, and then coming back with battling a failing grade with a professor is problematical. yet while that may no longer the 1st time you have felt uncomfortable because of the fact of him then you definately ought to make some form of checklist of this and different incidents...stable success

Definitely. Even if you receive no satisfaction from your incident with this professor, if enough others complain, the department will have to deal officially with her behavior. By lodging a complaint, you may save someone else from the same degrading treatment you received. Just make sure you have your witnesses lined up and your facts recorded irrefutably so she doesn't claim you're trying to slander her.

I think you still have merit to turn her in, just explain the same reasons you've listed here on why you didn't earlier when you are questioned. However, you can just not press charges on her if you decide that she has learned her lesson and is a better person now. And don't forget about all the other students coming after you. You wouldn't want them to experience the same fate or something similiar and be doing them a favor. What do you have to lose?

Well, if you do something, you should get a good lawyer first and have your lawyer handle things, otherwise this could just make a big noice and have no result at all except to make you 'radioactive.' You have to realize that this could definitely hurt your career. Maybe if you have a trusted faculty member at your new school you could talk to that person and get an opinion as to whether you are really risking anything or not. Maybe this person is already known as a loose cannon. But if not, then you could cause yourself some serious harm.

Although you might be a little late, you should still make a complaint against her for many reasons. You might not be the only person she has done this to and that is just insane. But its never too late and you should speak up.

You have to report her. Its your responsibility. She obviously knew that she had made a mistake and instead of apologising she has made it a living hell for you. In fact, i think you should go as far as suing her. Since you have people who witnessed her slapping you. I'd suggest you consult a lawyer first before you actually sue her. Nobody has any right to treat you that way. Not even your Parents.

You did the right thing for yourself, but the wrong thing if you are trying to prevent her from doing this to anyone else in the future. I think you should report it but just to keep her on her toes so that she doesn't do this to anyone else in the future. BTW people like that are just digusting, they use their position of power to take their anger out on other people...It's really sick. they should install cameras in all classrooms and keeps recordings of all actions for up to a week in all rooms for reference on the professors conduct. They should not be allowed to get away with stuff like this.

Speak with your witnesses first and reconfirm what they saw. Then contact a lawyer. If you contact a college without a lawyer, the college would likely laugh off a slap and you might feel slighted. They won't laugh off a lawsuit.

NOOOO DONT TELL!!!! KEEP QUIET!!!
Let her get away with it!! Let her do to many others what she has done to you. Let her use her power to control everyone around her, and get what she wants, by showing force. Let her walk around, with the ablity to look others in the eye and act like she is a human! I think you see what I am getting at. I am sure she has done this to someone else. You probably wont be alone once you say something. Good Luck!
