I'm stressing out there!! I'm in college and classes are cancelled Wednesday for Thanksgiving break. I orginially had 2 classes on Tuesday, one from 8:00-9:50 and the other at 12:30-1:45. My 8:00 class was cancelled and since I hate my 12:30 class (and it's seriously pointless!)...I was going to skip it and go home tomorrow instead! However, I just got an email from my teacher, for my 12:30 class, saying we're going to be doing this reference thing on Tuesday and we should not be absent! In this class, we make up our own assignments and due dates and we haven't gotten a grade for anything yet (I guess we turn it all in the end)...I don't do anything in that class because I have all my projects on my computer and the only reason we go to that class is to work with your group (if you're doing a group project) or if you need the teacher's help. He says he wants to check our reference list, but I don't think we're going to get a grade for having it...

since we haven't gotten any grades yet. So what should I do? Should I go home tomorrow like I orginally planned? I honestly thinking going to class will be a waste of time and it's my only class of the day (I haven't missed a class yet!). He gave us links to look at so I'm pretty sure I could figure it out...plus I know other people who aren't going either and we could always work on it together...

should I go home tomorrow or go to this class on Tuesday?

plus...I had emailed him on Friday telling him I wasn't coming to class...I think he just sent out the email so everyone would come to class! (maybe other people emailed him too...)

It is always a good decision to go to class in situations like this. Teachers hate it when students skip out on classes the week of thanksgiving (since usually you will only have one or two days of class that week) so they do or say things to encourage or force students to go to class. We only have one day of classes this week. I had a test in one class and a attendance taken in the other class.
It depends on the teacher when deciding whether or not to go to class. Sometimes the teacher will not hold it against you if you don't attend, but they will definitely reward you for attending while other teachers require it and may penalize you for not coming to class.
It is always safer to go to the class. He probably will give you a grade for your assignment that day, and if you're not there you might get a zero. You don't want your gpa to suffer because you didn't do well in an easy class.

Hey Yahoo! buddy...ok. I have a question. Are you flying, or driving!?

I think it's cool you haven't missed a class and even though you are anxious to get out of town and see your family, (I know I would be too), I think you should stick to your admirable devotion to school and head to the class. If it is a waste of time...well..then that sucks, but it could be...and it's really not someone else responsibilty to pay attention and catch you up on a class you are supposed to be attending.

If you are flying, I would be a little more sympathetic, but I would still call the professor, and state your position. Tell him you didn't think you would have to attend and....thats the time you got a flight out.

Good luck and Happy Thanksgiving!!!

I had a couple professors like that..Those who came to class got extra points at the end of the sem. It's your decision but what if they give a pop test or extra points and you are not there.. Gl on your decision

Did you e-mail your professor Directly? Or Called him? Tell your professor you are scheduled to leave on that specific time for your flight to go home. And that it was very important for you to go on that specific time for either driving, taking flight, train. etc. Something! And tell him to give you all the info. he is going to give on that day. Does anyone work for him? Like T.A.? Ask one the T.A. what he is up to...
