Boy, are there some really bad answers to your question listed here!
OK, here's the scoop. First, you have plenty of time to work this out, but you have already taken the first step towards success by keeping your grades up. That's how you get scholarships and that's how you get admitted to the top schools. So, keep your eyes on the prize and work hard for top grades.
Second, I have visited a lot of top schools in my work, and they all say the same thing. Of course they want kids with top grades, but besides the grades, they want kids who are obsessed with something, who have found a passion - whether it is sports, music, history, science, whatever, but they have become passionate about it and really done a great job - a state championship, a national level award, some kind of top recognition.
Of course, if you plan to wind up in medicine you will need a lot of science courses - you cant do science without math, so you need to be really a good student in math class. Most medical schools require calculus and physics with calculus as pre-reqs, so you cant do well in those unless you are comfortable with math. You should try to take all the AP courses in science in your high school. If you have a choice, go to a high school where there are a lot of AP courses.
And, guess what? You can major in history and still be a doctor. When you go to college you can be pre-med, but pre-med is not a major. It just is a set of about seven or eight courses that you need to complete that are required for med school application. You can usually major in anything you want. History, music, art, whatever. As long as you do those particular few courses that are needed for med school, the rest of the courses you take can be any major. Anyway, lots of people who want to go into broadcasting, writing, or many areas of business - especially international business - major in history. So it is an OK backup if you decided that you really dont want to go to med school.
Good luck! Follow your dream!

First of all, congratulations for doing so well in your studies. It's good that you are taking your education serious. As far as college goes, be sure to know what you are expecting and looking for such as academics, extracurricular activities, and the field of study you're interested in. You can contact the school that you are interested in and ask as many questions as you would like to make sure that you are choosing a school that will benefit you and your future career. A couple of things to look for would be:
1. The level of the school
2. Your field of study
3. Will the school be a challenge for you
4. Success of those who have attended the school
5. Scholarships, financial aid and grants
6. programs offered at the school
7. extracurricular activities
8. You also need to look into schools that have a dual program that will help you in your field of study meaning that some schools have a program that help students to get their degrees faster and are less expensive.
9. When you attend school, be sure to get a copy of the courses needed for your degree and mark them off as you take them.
10. keep a copy of the catalog when you first attend the college so that if any changes are made to the curriculum, you won't have to adjust to it because of your date of admission.
Good Luck

A state school is always good and inexpensive. You are not postitive what you want to do so go somewhere that is relatively large with many options. If you go to a (example) engineering school and then you decide that is not for you then you would have to change schools to get exactly what you want, then you might loose credits and waste time, and money. Good Luck.

being a staraight A is the first step towards being a doctor as gpa is one of the factors that the admission committee take into consideration when reviewing your application.
As to which college you should attend, I really can't tell unless I know first what state you are in and what you want to study for your undergrad.
