My husband wants to buy tivo for our new big tv. If we hook up tivo to the new tv - that's the only tv we can watch the tivo'd shows on right? But if we get dvd recorder we can watch the DVD on any tv in the house that has dvd player? Or am I missing something here? There are six people in the house so chances of me getting to watch my show on the new tv don't look good.

I have tried to connect a new Humax 8000T recorder to a TV/DVD combi but could not get get any signal coming through on the AV channel.

Could it be anything to do with the Scart on the Combi being OUT
or any other suggestion on why it is not working.

Does anyone have this model connected to a Combi and working?
If so what make and model Combi?

HELP ME IF YOU CAN! In July 06 we went to Circuit City and puchased a plasma tv, along with a mount, installation, and a Direct TV HD DVR. We purchased all of these items together in order to receive an instant rebate. The sales rep at Circuit City informed us that the Direct TV HD DVR would not allow us to view our local channels in HD because of a software conflict with TIVO, but Direct TV was working on a new HD DVR without TIVO that would be available in a few months, and that since we were purchasing this one, we would automatically recieve the new HD DVR that does show our local channels, and that we would not have to pay for it since we were outright buying this DVR. December came along and we received no new DVR. We called Direct TV, who offerred to sell us the new DVR for $299, but said they do not do free upgrades. I contacted Circuit City and asked them to honor what the sales person told us, and they told us to contact Direct TV. What should we DO????

I have my DirecTV box in the living room. I have run a split cable line to my bedroom. I do not want another box because of the cost. I heard that I can use an infrared remote to control the box from another room. Would this be a special remote control that can transmit without being in direct line of sight (pointed at) of the box? or a special receiver that attaches to the box that my existing remote works with?

Can I find these items at Radio Shack, Fry's or Circuit City?

If it is a special remote control, it won't have all of the same functions that my actual DirecTV remote has right?

I am thinking of buying a DVD/Video player in one from argos today and they only have two in stock.
Have you ever heard of the make FUNAI, and if so, are they decent or are they a load of rubbish, like Alba or Bush?
Thanks a lot!

Okay heres the thing. We were watching tonights American Idol recorded and we rewound it. Well when we hit play it froze up and then turned black. We have sound now but we dont have a picture. And it's just this box b/c we have a picture on the other TVs in the house.

The picture has gone away once before on one of our other TVs too and it came back after a while but we cant get this one to come back. Any ideas on how to fix this? Any idea as to what the problem is?

Here's the deal. I got sick of dishnetwork and echostar. I moved twice and they couldn't keep up or find me, and could not even acknowledge my payments. Shut me off for non payment... 4 months later... 4 months for free! So since I live in the boonies, I went and put up a regular old outdoor tv antenna, and I get all the local chanells for free, and clear quality too! Back to the basics so to speak. So my question is, can I get this DVR of theirs to work with regular old fashioned network TV? Dont care about program menus, phone lines or recording.... but cant it at least do the pause and playback thing? Thanks!

I am looking into buying a Tivo.
I am curious, what is the subscription fee for? (If the Tivo connects to my internet connection, why do I need to pay Tivo??)
And it says I need a phone line to set up the tivo initially....I don't have a phone line, but my parents do...can I set up the tivo at my parents house with their phone line, and then bring it back to my house and connect it to my internet network?
