Here's the deal. I got sick of dishnetwork and echostar. I moved twice and they couldn't keep up or find me, and could not even acknowledge my payments. Shut me off for non payment... 4 months later... 4 months for free! So since I live in the boonies, I went and put up a regular old outdoor tv antenna, and I get all the local chanells for free, and clear quality too! Back to the basics so to speak. So my question is, can I get this DVR of theirs to work with regular old fashioned network TV? Dont care about program menus, phone lines or recording.... but cant it at least do the pause and playback thing? Thanks!

No Dish Network receiver will work without a current subscription - High Definition Tuner and PVR functions included.

Dish Network 622 owners find this frustrating. The 622 has an Over-The-Air High Definition tuner that logically should work independently of the satellite tuner / subscription.

No such luck.

First the "pause and playback thing" is recording. I do not believe you can. The DVR won't work without a sattelite signal.

I am pretty sure Tivo has that capability...
