How do I hook up a DVR with the rest of my entertainment system?

I don't know if my cable company would come out to help me but I don't know how to connect the DVR with the DVD player and the cable and the TV...there are diagrams that came with it but they just confuse me more...it says to connect it to my DVD player but I don't want to record off of that I want to record off the TV

Keep the DVD player where it is. Hook up the cable box to the DVR then the DVR to the TV.
