Absolutely. If you DTH have satellite you will require a receiver to allow you to have a 1080i HD signal. If you want the optimum picture you will need a HDMI to DVI cable (about a $100 for a good one). I know it's a royal pain in the @ss but these are the facts.

The tuner in your TV is a tuner for off-the-air (antenna) broadcasts. When you hook up your satellite receiver, you are not using the tuner.

You will also need an HD satellite receiver because the non-HD one will not be bringing in the HD signals.

So, yes, you will need both.

However, if the only HD broadcasts you watch are network TV, then you COULD get an antenna and use that for getting HD.

If you have access to your local networks' HD signals, you don't need the HD receiver from Dish or DirecTV. But if you want to watch all the other channels that are only available through your satellite TV provider, you'll need the receiver. To watch the open TV networks that have HD channels, you just need a simple VHF antenna, indoors or outdoors.

Yes, because the quality of the image you are recieving from the reciever at the moment does not match the potential of the tv. Getting an HD reciever will allow you to watch the shows in HD, which is impossible to do without such a reciever.
