The newer recievers and sound equipment seem to show the level of the volume in reverse. That is, the number shown at a normal listening range might be -34db (that's MINUS 34 decibels)
And when you turn the volume DOWN the display goes down, like to, - 40db (that's minus 40), -50, -60db, etc.
And when you turn UP the volume the display goes up ( lower minus numbers) like -30, -20 and finally zero .
Please explain what they are trying to say

Hopefully you guys can help me out. I am currently in college on my freshman year majoring in electrical engineering, but I'm not sure if I should be majoring in that. I would like to work with electronic gadgets from mp3 players, handhelds consoles, pdas, tvs, game consoles to computers. I'm more of a hardware guy. I like to tinker around with stuff and also building it. I simply love and want to be on the latest on technology.

I am thinking there is a machine that will do this. I have some vhs that I want to keep on dvd and trash the bulky vhs. Can it be done? What do I need? Thanks for your answers... I have about 150 movies I would like to keep in my library and I have purchased them on vhs and never thought they would be obsolete! Any hope for transfering them to DVD for my personal use? Is this allowed? I do not know?

I thought I would be able to find a voice recorder with a built in microphone that records on CD/R. But the guy at Radio Shack says I have to use a cassette tape machine, or record on my computer and transfer to CD/R.
I am ready to spend $34.95 on a cassette recorder at radio Shack, but where is the CD version of this machine?

I got into an argument with someone. They say a barcode [just a regular little paper barcode] will make a security detector at the door of a store go off. I disagree and think this is false. I think that the barcode does not affect the security detector. Only the special security devices installed in the packaging do.
Am I right or wrong?

Let me know what you think.

I have Comcast cable, and don't really feel like paying $100 a month just to get HD channels. So, I went to Wal-Mart and got the Phillips HD antenna. I plugged it in and, I didn't notice a difference when I switched between cable and over the air on my HDTV. The quality looks exactly the same. But, then I wondered something. How can it transmit an HD signal over RF or coaxial cables? I mean, all the inputs that there are are RF in and RF out. Would component or HDMI work much better? Do other HD antennaes have HDMI or component input/output? Thanks!
