I want to try and get a new digitial camera soon but I want to get one that proffesional photographers use. I have heard that nikon have some good ones but I dont know what model is good. I dont really mind what make but as long as it is very good quality. Also want good resolution and would prefer the megapixels to be higher. If anyone has a good camera like that or knows of any good professional cameras could you please tell me and if possible give a link to the camera on a page that has all the details of it. Also would prefer one thats not too expensive but the price doesnt really matter. I am from the uk so would prefer cameras available in the uk. Thanks

I am looking to puchase a digital camera for my girlfriend's birthday. She has a lot of equipment but doesn't yet have a good digital slr. The 35mm camera she uses is a Leica brand. I first looked into trying to buy the same brand that she uses but they seem to be much more expensive than the cannon or nikkon ones I see everywhere. Also seems to be somewhat difficult to find a store which sells them.

Is there something significant which makes this particular camera so expensive? I talked with 3 different people at the bestbuy store and they led me to believe that cannon was one of the better brands to buy right now. They also said that her current lenses would fit the cannon body if I buy an adapter ring (which they don't sell).

I would like to surprise her with something nice and don't want to sound cheap but, well.... tuition bill coming very soon too.

Anyway, I'm truly ignorant when it comes to photography so I really do appreciate any advice.

On photobox.co.uk it says a 2 megapixel picture would be sufficient for a basic 6x4 photo to be printed by them, so say when I get my new 5mg camera at the weekend would there be a big difference between taking photos at full size or can I downsize to save space on the memory card but still get the same quality on the end product?
Thank

I know there is a docking station out there from kodak for my make of camera. Is there an alternate way to charge the batteries? Can I use my USB cable and plug it into the computer, will that charge it at all?

I was in a bookshop and there was a camera at the top and a screen in another place.

I was looking at the camera and suddenly notice that my black cap was appearing white. My hairs are black but when I removed my cap my hairs were not white. Is it because its an infra red camera or something which detects only human being?

Thanks

For examples i'm going to a hockey game, sitting pretty far and I want good optical zoom, image stability,anti-shake,and takes good pics in or out and is very good quality. For examples i've been looking at Olympys SP-510 UZ but it does not have image stability. So if you can find a cam that has all i'm looking for I would appreciate it so much.
Thanks,

I took an educated guess thinking that one of the standard settings of 640 x 480 on a digital camera translated to a 6 x 4 (4 x 6) in. photo. I found out that isn't true. I measured it out after printing one and it came out to be closer to 6.4 x 4.8 in. which makes sense if 1 pixel = .01 in. So, first, why isn't there a setting for standard photo sizes like instead of 640 x 480 using 600 x 400? Also, do I have to consider the dots per inch (dpi) when finally printing the photo? I know 96 dpi is a setting I see over and over. Does this work into a calculation when resizing a photo to print out to an exact size?
