I know there is a docking station out there from kodak for my make of camera. Is there an alternate way to charge the batteries? Can I use my USB cable and plug it into the computer, will that charge it at all?

When I bought my C743 a few months ago it came w/ 2 AA alkaline batteries which ran out pretty quickly.

Because the C743 accepts AA batteries, you're not beholden to Kodak's battery pack solution unless you want to be. You could go the disposable route and buy alkaline or lithium batteries, or go the rechargeable route and buy a pack of rechargeable NiMH batteries and a charger (Duracell, Energizer, etc). I do both: keep a set of rechargeables charged, while carrying another set of alkalines just in case the rechargeables are not charged.

The USB cable that came w/ the C743 does _not_ power the camera. I know: I've tried turning on the camera plugged into the computer w/o batteries and it just won't work. Won't turn on, much less read the memory card.

You don't need to purchase the docking station unless you like the convenience of consolidating the offloading of photos, the charging of the Kodak battery, and printing individual photos in one unit.

If i'm getting your question, i think of you would be greater powerful off with a information superhighway-cam sort of device. Your digicam wont do the "stay" end action that i think of you're talking approximately, whether it does a video factor. With a webcam setup, you may set up your concern, make variations, take a nevertheless %, and stack the %. to lead them to lively.
