For examples i'm going to a hockey game, sitting pretty far and I want good optical zoom, image stability,anti-shake,and takes good pics in or out and is very good quality. For examples i've been looking at Olympys SP-510 UZ but it does not have image stability. So if you can find a cam that has all i'm looking for I would appreciate it so much.
Thanks,

I recently purchased a Canon Powershot A710, which is 7.1 megapixels and has a 6x optical zoom with IS. It also has features in which you can control the lighting and the ISO shutter speed, which will prove to be helpful for events such as hockey games. It's pricey tho, at about $300, although amazon had it on sale recently. It's also a 2AA camera, meaning it will lag a bit to recharge the flash, and the LCD isn't "smooth" like a Sony camera's. The pictures, however, come out great, and there are so many other features I'm still learning. It's not a compact camera, but I love it!

Do some research and I'm sure that you'll wind up with a great choice as I did. Nov1 bought a Sony CyberShot DSC-H2. It has image stabilizer, great on batteries, comes with batteries and charger. Has 6 megapixels, 12X optical zoom. When photos are enlarged 8X10 looks great, has 1 second delay between shots. It can be bought for $300 not the $341 I paid at Best Buy online. Also condider camera I got my daughter, Fugifilm FinePix S5200.
5 megapixels, 10X optical zoom, takes great 8X10's, shutter speed to 1/2000 second, ISO range 64 to 1600. Also great on batteries. I paid $237 at Beach camera in Edison, NJ. Check out your local library for Nov'06 Consumer Reports. Hope this helps a little.

The Canon PowerShot S2IS and the newer S3IS are both great 12x zoom digital cameras with image stabilzation. There is very little difference between them - so if you want to save money, you might see if you can find an S2. - The main difference between them is that the S3 has 6 rather than 5 megapixel resolution and it can shoot and at a higher ISO (sensitivity to light) setting - Both of these cameras can also shoot movies with Stereo sound; both have eye level electronic finders which makes it easier to hold the camera steady and both use AA batteries - (Its best to use rechargeable AA - but they are inexpensive compared to the special batteries used in some cameras.). - Also both of these cameras use the relatively inexpensive SD memory cards.

In my yearbook class we have a Canon Rebel and it has excellent zoom and does great with stability. It has a lot of settings though so you would have to know what those mean or read the manual. This is just one of the ones that I know of. Have fun at ur Hockey Game!
