Software - March 2007

All of my regular text has been replaced with weird symbols and characters, I'm wondering if I can change it back to English. Everything readable is in this format, see this picture for a better idea. Yeah, it's weird. Please help.

I have another computer to view the answers, but I'd like to get this problem fixed, preferably without erasing everything. Thanks.

I need to find a really good photoshop program that is FREE to download =D.... I want good filters, cut, and paste, different color optiuons and good stuff =D Any one got any good ones and where can i find it?

Ok, so basically I'm computer illiterate. I'm trying to burn a CD, which has always worked without a problem previously. Now it says "connect a burner and restart player" when I try to burn a CD. Also, I tried to put a DVD in the same laptop drive and it doesn't play either. Could a plug have come unloose inside my laptop to cause this problem? Is there any way of fixing it without bringing it to a computer repair shop? It's possible that I might have knocked my laptop and my drive may have shifted in position so that it doesn't recognize CDs and DVDs anymore. Thanks for any advice.

It starts up, initializes fonts and plugins, then 5 seconds after the main screen comes on, it gives me an error saying "Cannot complete requested operation." Then it crashes and closes. Anyone know why this is, and how I can fix this problem? I payed $500 for it and I want to freakin use it! I have work to do!

My boss has an Excel file filled with contacts and wants to know if hes able to search by properties such as state, city or zipcode. How can I do this?

Also, he wants to selectively print labels (ex: company name and address). I dont think this is possible but thought I'd ask anyway.

My friend just got a new pc so they gave us our old one for our 3 yo daughter to go and play internet games. This system is completely wiped out with nothing on it, including an operating system.
-I don't know much about computers but I know there are operating systems that are free that exist. I would like to install one of these free o/s's on the computer. It has a cd-rom drive.
-I have a laptop and desktop besides this so i would be able to download and burn any cd's to install it. I will need help "booting" it on the clean pc.

Help, may I have a link to a free o/s website (preferably Linux), directions on how to make the cd/dvd, what to do to boot that cd/dvd on the clean new pc.

the computer was working fine until last week. I have since deleted limewire and bearshare from the computer I have lots of memory. i have deleted all online stuff. I have WIN XP I am not sure what the problem is... Its running SLOWWWWW even when i am not online. just doing offline stuff or trying to open programs it is slow and if not then it just freezes up how can I fix this? I had norton anti virus then i switched to att virus protection after all of this started its still running slow heeeeellllpppp mmmeeee!!!!!!!!!

who can teach me a step by step guild to how to dl a youtube video cause when i open the youtube video using the firefox explorer, it says about javascrpt not turned on and older version of flash player when i already have installed the latest and also checked that the script is turn on....

i tried to click on the video downloader and downded a video but then i cant open it using the fiv player....

would not play movies, so I downloaded update media player 11 now it does nothing, and if i remove media player on add and remove programs there are 3 media player on there should i remove all of them.

I want to make an interactive CD that automatically opens the Powerpoint persentation regradless of weather or not the host computer has PowerPoint installed. I've seen some of these presentation CD's done in Flash, but I don't know Flash and do know a lot of PowerPoint. The ideal would be to have autorun run the presentation in such a way that the user wouldn't even know the platform used to make it.

I will be summing sets of numbers with different #'s of rows. I want to be able to run a macro below a set of numbers and have it do =sum(that range of numbers)
I've tried doing the 'record macro' but it writes the code, for example) as:
ActiveCell.FormulaR1C1 = "=SUM(R[-4]C:R[-1]C)"

the next set of numbers might have 20 numbers, or 2, but it won't always be 4.
