I have a rush project where I need to do layouts for a magazine that have alot of text and images. Is it advisable to use photoshop to do these and will there be any drawback when it comes out in print? If so, what can I expect?

I really a not very seasoned with using Indesign or other programs and because I am in such a rush, I don't have the time to learn them. That is why I am trying to do it in Photoshop.

Your input/help is very much appreciated. =)

I had Windows Word 2007 Beta. Finally, I took it off my computer. Then, the word processor files (.doc) became wordpad. That is, I click on the desktop (e.g.) icon for a file and it shows the wordpad icon and it opens with wordpad. I wish it opened with openoffice, the word processor I will be using and like. Also, hopefully it will show the openoffice icon. Please let me know how to switch. Thanks.

Hi. I have a very strange task to do: I have a Microsoft Word document which has a bunch of nonsense words as well as a few normal ones. Normally, Word underlines errors and/or misspelled words or phrases; but this time I want it to underline normal and correctly spelled words so that I can find out them easily. Do you have an idea how to do that?

I have a list of names formatted:
Last Name, First Name, MI.

in MS Excel. Is it possible for Excel to format them into an eight letter string with the first six of the last name, then first initial, then middle initial.

i.e.

Answers, Yahoo G. becomes answeryg

if a last name is less than six characters, the first name is used to fill the space

Smith, Ryan B. becomes smithryb

I am trying to load up Norton Save & Restore off the self-booting recovery CD. Everything appears to be working normally when it first starts loading. It shows the 'Symantec recovery disk loading' message. After a few more moments it shows the yin-yang Norton Logo Screen. As it continues loading it goes to a cyan background and puts up a white cursor that I can move around. The cd-rom keeps bumping and grinding for several moments(almost sounds like a mechanic tryiing to rip-out an engine). Finally, after 7-8 minutes of what appears to be a normal boot process, the software simply reboots the computer and Im back to square one. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening and how I can get past this problem? Please help. Thanks.

I just bought a laptop that says Windows Vista Premium Ready, and I was told I could get the operating system by mail. But now I don't know if that's true or what I have to do to get it. Please if someone could help me I'd really appreciate it.

I've found one free software, Serif Draw Plus 4.0 that lets me add in pictures and text, then Export what I've done as a image. Like jpg, gif etc.

Many of the free softwares either don't let you export what you've done OR are for a limited useage time only like 60 days.. Or both :(

Are there other freebies that let you Export what you've done and don't have time limit for how long you can use their software?

My exact needs are: being able to add photos and text to a page, then being able to Export (save to my computer) what I've done as one large image containing the photos and text I've put on that page..

I'm interested in all the choices that are out there, so if you know of any, please let me know.

So what are we to do with this daylight savings time ordeal. Can unchecking DST keep from messing up the computers. Or do we need to do do something this to prevent this?? Please advise.. :)

I recently joined a web site that uses (mostly) wmv files and can be played on wmp, which I have. Some of the files are animations and some are presentations. When I first clicked on a presentation, I needed to download something. I got Microsoft Office Powerpoint Viewer 2003. It is only a viewer.

I would like to be able to use a program that allows me to create my own presentations.

I recently brought a webcam from hong kong and loaded up the software.
