I have a rush project where I need to do layouts for a magazine that have alot of text and images. Is it advisable to use photoshop to do these and will there be any drawback when it comes out in print? If so, what can I expect?

I really a not very seasoned with using Indesign or other programs and because I am in such a rush, I don't have the time to learn them. That is why I am trying to do it in Photoshop.

Your input/help is very much appreciated. =)

There is no doubt you would run into other problems trying to do a project like this in photshop. You would end up with a lot of very large files, pixelated text, and a difficult to work with environment. It will be more difficult to fix things later, tougher to do anything but the most basic of design, and take forever to print.

The good thing is that all of Adobe's products use the same type of layout, and if you know how to use photoshop you should not have too much difficulty with Indesign, as it is as straight forward as all their programs. If you get stuck, just check the help files, the internet, or ask somewhere online.

Use Photoshop for the images only.
Use a page layout application like InDesign, for the text.
The text will be smoother and look better in InDesign.
Doing text in Photoshop gives it a "fuzzy" edge because its all based on pixels.

Using Publisher as others have stated is not a good idea.
Publisher is almost worthless in the world of real printing.
Most printers who receive a Publisher file will ask for exta $$ to work with it because it is so useless (We do).

Stick with InDesign for the layout, and Photoshop for the images.
The printer will thank you.

Photoshop seems like it would be big pain in the butt to do a magazine layout - take the simple road and use publisher - this isn't the ideal application to use - but it will make it quicker and simpler - or if you have it and oyu know how to use it - use illustrator.

Good luck

Use Microsoft Publisher, it can even give you a template to work with.
