I tried to install The Sims 2 on my laptop and it would get as far as the second disc before freezing. so i tried it again with the same results. I now have the sims 2 halfway installed twice on my hard drive taking up a lot of space and the computer won't let me delete it, I go to add or remove programs and when i click on it it does nothing. i hope someone can help me get it off of there.

I bought a game a while back, but I have now lost the CD, and it requires the CD in order to work; I still want to play it but don't wanna shell out the cash for a new CD. What can I do about this besides buying a new one?

Let's say for example that I am scanning in barcodes with a scanner into an Excel workbook. These barcodes have numbers yet, if I want to replicate the dashes on the 'barcodes' (not isbn barcodes!) I need to enter those manually for each that I scan in. Is there a way in MS Excel (2003 professional ed.) that I can set it up so that after, say, every 6 digits a dash is inserted? Let me know if this needs more clarification and I'll edit this question.

When I got a new computer, I gave my slightly older one to my father. The "old" one is a Dell Dimmension 4600, P4 2.4GHz, 768MB RAM, Nvidia GeForce 6200 (256 MB I think) video card. The problem is a game that won't run. The Hunting Adventures Combo Pack has 7 games that all run directly from the CD. It lists Windows XP as an acceptable OS. One of the 7 games will run, but the other 6 freeze once they are started. It's maxing out the processor. All of the drivers are up to date on this computer. I have tried the Compatiblity modes with no luck. The new computer allows the games to play without any problems...but that one has a dual-core AMD processor and 2 GB of memory. This game worked fine on my father's previous computer (Windows 2000, 6XXMHz processor, 512MB RAM, a low end 128MB Nvidia GeForce video card.
Is there a way I can limit the amount of processing power this game can use? I don't want to have to set up a dual boot just for one game or spend more $ to get it to work.
Thx.

I've tried all the suggestions from the Adobe website, but I still can't get it to download. Someone mentioned something about being logged on as Administrator, which I am. Anyone have any suggestions?

This has happened before, completely out of the blue. One minute Excel works fine, the next it prompts me to reinstall Office even though Word is functioning perfectly. Last time it just went away on its own after about a week. It hasn't been that long yet, but I'm wondering if there's anything I can do to circumvent the problem.

I have an AMD Athlon 64 3200 and am still running Windows 2000. If I get Vista can I install both on my system? I'm afraid of my old devices and drivers not working with the 64 bit version of Vista.

Also, if I install Vista on one computer but find its not working well, can I uninstall it and then install it on a different computer?

PC had Win2k installed in c:\winnt and outlook 2k
I updated the machine to office 2003 (including outlook 2003)
I backed up all email/folders/contacts/etc. to a .PST (on a network drive)
Rather than doing a HDD wipe and fresh install I installed WinXP (fresh from CD) into c:\windows Leaving the install of win2k in c:\winnt
Then I installed office 2003 and many other programs.
I imported the backup file (from a network drive) thinking everything went great.
A few days later they call saying all the e-mail is not there.
They had e-mail from 2003-present. It only had e-mail from this past year.

I tried grabbing the original .pst files (the mail file, and the archive) from the old \documents and setting directory and importing them.

The best result I got was the original welcome message from outlook, dated in 2003. From there the e-mail started back up in 2006.

I need to know if there is anything else I can do to recover these missing messages. (yes I did see them in before this)

I bought a new computer about 4 months ago. It came with a trial of Microsoft 2003. Now it is saying that my free trial has expired and that I must purchase the full product. I'm not happy about this, but at the moment, it wont let me open ANY of my files (instead pops up saying "need to upgrade from trial") and I'm at a loss. I need my files! I've come to the point where I will pay whatever they are asking (it doesnt say how much), but when I click "continue with purchase" it just opens to a blank white screen. HELP! Anyone know what is going on or have any solutions? I'm basically at a stand still! Would openoffice.org be able to let me into my Word files at this point, or is there no way to get around Microsoft holding them hostage?! (it will let me open select files, but I cant edit or change anything in them...)

I asked a similar question here 3 days ago, and was advised to uninstall the program, but I can't find "GoogleUpdater" on my computer to uninstall.

I've been able to uninstall whatever Google stuff that's on my Programs list, and Add/Remove Programs. I didn't remove Google Desktop Search and Google Video, but i'll be happy to remove them if they're part of Google Pack and/or Google Updater.

The "Google Team" suggested to a member of "Google Pack Help" to go to Task Manager, Processes, and "Show processes from all users", and "Image Name", and to "End Process' on any instance of "GoogleUpdater.exe", but there were no instances of "Google Updater.exe" to end.
Thanks!
