*factory installed* meaning that it is legit and you have the *product key* sticker somewehere on the PC itself... then yes u can re-install windows XP, use the same product key. you can do this several times (as many as you want). keep in mind ur old XP CD is just that , OLD. Meaning you will need to UPDATE via the MS Updater, all the latest security/update that are available for XP. You didnt mention if the CD has SP2 (which is the lates) 2 yrs ago... hmmm.. maybe, but that is what u would have to do everytime you re-install from your CD.

that said, there are ways to Ghost/Image your hard drive so that you can restore from a good known point (usally after you re-install all the patches/upgrades) and other ways to create your own install CD that has all the updates loaded. but these are not trivial, and you will have to do more research.

If you have a good copy on the new computer why do you want to wipe it? Just keep it as is and store your disc in case you have problems in the future.

Yes you can
If you have a problem with the Product key
call Microsoft
and when they ask (and they will)
tell them that you had to reformat your hard drive due to some virus issues
they should issue you a new product key

By copyright law microsoft does not allow on more than one computer unless you have licenses purchased. Beware you are committing a crime if you do
