your computer is stalling on a particular background program that won't close, so it never moves on to closing other windows/programs. This could be because you don't have enough ram, or one program that is corrupted in your system tray. You should probably go to msconfig and uncheck the box that says "load startup programs" then restart. Also try defrag and disccheck utilities.

what is the error you get when shut down? how are u shutting down? do all windows that are open not closing or just some? see b4 anyone can answer, we need a little more info from ya...

If you mean MS Office programs like Word or Outlook, there's no problem; that's just the way it is. Otherwise, the guy with the fruity hairdo is right; you have to install Windows again.

Theres a problem with some software that are still running , BUT we can work around that , try this site , www.retestrak.nl , there at the left select tweaks and look for the registry entry for the shutdown sequence
