When I got a new computer, I gave my slightly older one to my father. The "old" one is a Dell Dimmension 4600, P4 2.4GHz, 768MB RAM, Nvidia GeForce 6200 (256 MB I think) video card. The problem is a game that won't run. The Hunting Adventures Combo Pack has 7 games that all run directly from the CD. It lists Windows XP as an acceptable OS. One of the 7 games will run, but the other 6 freeze once they are started. It's maxing out the processor. All of the drivers are up to date on this computer. I have tried the Compatiblity modes with no luck. The new computer allows the games to play without any problems...but that one has a dual-core AMD processor and 2 GB of memory. This game worked fine on my father's previous computer (Windows 2000, 6XXMHz processor, 512MB RAM, a low end 128MB Nvidia GeForce video card.
Is there a way I can limit the amount of processing power this game can use? I don't want to have to set up a dual boot just for one game or spend more $ to get it to work.
Thx.

The new computer this game will work on has WinXP SP2, same as the one with problems.

The GeForce 6200 didn't give me any freezing problems with much more demanding games when I was using it, but it's worth trying the onboard video instead of the card.

Also visiting the game manufacuter website wasn't much help, since the games run from the CD and are not installed, the patch for 1 of the 7 games wouldn't work.

Googling the game didn't work either as all that brought up was a site that is selling the game.

In your case, I would check the system requirements for the game, and you are probably right, the video card should have at least 256mb of onboard ram.
I have found that sometimes, once a computer is updated to sp2, it has some issues with some games. I had two identical computers, the game in question worked on one machine sp1, and not on the other with the sp2 update.
I would suggest that you google know issues for the game in question, or go to the game manufactures site, and see if there is a patch.

i used to have a geforce 6200 and it would freeze a lot of my games and videos when i tried to play them. the 6200 is known for this, especially if you use it via pci (which i assume you are since this is a dell)
