I had Windows Word 2007 Beta. Finally, I took it off my computer. Then, the word processor files (.doc) became wordpad. That is, I click on the desktop (e.g.) icon for a file and it shows the wordpad icon and it opens with wordpad. I wish it opened with openoffice, the word processor I will be using and like. Also, hopefully it will show the openoffice icon. Please let me know how to switch. Thanks.

It's actually fairly simple to do.

Open up ANY folder on your computer.
Click on the Tools and then Folder Options
Click on the File Types tab
Locate the DOC file type, click it, then click Change

You're then given a list of programs. Select the openoffice program. In XP, it'll automatically assign the icon. In 2000 and 98, you can browse icons to assign to it.

That's it.
