Software - January 2007

I bought a computer from Dell a few years ago and it came with Windows XP Home.

I just bought Windows XP Pro (full version, not upgrade). I reformatted and installed it on my Dell.

Since I own full versions of both can I legally install the HOME version in another computer I own? Or does the OEM licence bind it to the original computer??

I can't get "commercially produced" DVD's to play on my PC.

One is an exercise video and the other is a Disney movie.

PC is brand new: Windows XP, Multimedia Edition 2005; 2.1 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo; 1 G RAM; 256 M Video; 250G Hard Drive.

This is the first time I try to play a DVD on the PC. Neither will play the video portion. On the Disney Movie I can access the miscellaneous things like the coloring book to print for the kids but that is about all I can view on the DVD. The exercise video will not play/launch at all.

I looked on AfterDawn.com but couldn't find an answer there.

Does anyone know where we can go on the net to find instructions for WORD PERFECT to unset what is wrong and place in the correct information. So far each time we add a page to a directory list we have, the first page has the number "1 of 9" on it but then the pages 2 thru 6 have nothing!. Then pages 7,8,9 all say the same thing "7 of 9" like it is stuck, even though they are different pages. So I want to turn off the feature and erase all of that mistake, then re-do the number thing from scratch... I need step by step for that.
I do not have Word Perfect program myself. Our Pastor who is some what older and not accustomed to computers uses it and he needs help and I am trying to help him over the phone (or by email) I know how to do it in Microsoft Word but that does not help him. Please have mercy.. any directions to where I can find it will help if you can not give me step by step yourself.

hey i was just wondering how do you work dvd shrink. I have a movie on my computer that i want to compress because it's too big of a file to put on disk. How can i compress the movie with dvd shrink it doesn't seem to go on it. And if i can't what program can i use that will shrink the movie but still have good quality like on the computer

if I upgrade to Vista from xp do I lose my data such as iTunes songs, Microsoft word data etc? Also my laptop has a vista capable sticker on it, so im guessing Vista will run fine on it? It is a HP Pavilion Dv 8000.

I am using Microsoft Office 2007 - and I would like to print a sheet of 30 labels - different addresses - using labels size 6.7cm x 2.5cm - do you know what margins settings I should use to get perfect results - because I am not getting perfect results now. If I print 30 with the same address - they are prefect - but with a selection of addresses - it is a nightmare!

Any help would be very much appricated.

ok folks maybe one of you can help.. I have IE7 installed and when i try to go to my myspace profile it pops up click to run activeX control on this page.. i do not get the yellow bar that would allow me to do so. I had quicktime installed and when i ran the page i would get a Q with a ? in it. I removed quicktime from my computer and now i just get the little red X in the corner, and my apps still won't run. I've tried everything short of taking a hammer to my computer. It is also happening on other webpages as well. It is as if ActiveX is not running on my computer at all.. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

Okay, so i was looking around at pictures, and i found this persons myspace and i really loved how their pictures looked. Don't worry, i'm not asking about designing or anything because i know how to do that already. What i'm talking about is this:

See how the picture looks kinda stretched out? I'm wondering how to do that. I remember having a program that would let you sort of stretch a picture, but i don't remember what it was called. I could possibly be imagining the whole thing too. So can someone tell me how i could do this? I have editing programs like photoshop and photofiltre, so i'm not looking for someone to tell me to use photoshop, i want specific instructions on how to do this.

I am trying to put together a voice demo for my acting. I have 5 tracks on CD and on Windows Media Player. I want to take 10 second segments from each track and put them together on one track to send out. Can I do that on Windows Media Player?

I got a CD from PCGamer magazine that has some mods on it. I tried to downlaod one of the mods, but then the program on the CD stopped functioning properly, so I closed it. It wouldn't close normally, so I had to use the program manager. Right after it closed, my entire screen and the movement of the pointer turned sideways. It was also stretched out to fit the screen. I tried restarting my computer, and when it was loading Windows and such it was normal, but once it got to the sign-in screen, it was sideways again. I also tried using controls on the moniter (the menu wasn't sideways), but that didn't help.
