your files and programs stay intact and you won't loose anything. Vista is a nice program i've been running a beta version since august. the upgrade installs about the same way as service pack 2 did when microsoft upgraded windows xp

BEWARE!!! While Office documents and other such programs may run fine on Vista, I called Apple to find out about iTunes. Their answer was that iTunes is absolutely NOT compatible with Windows Vista, and that they have no idea when this will be fixed. If iTunes is a big part of your computer, wait until Apple releases a Vista version. Otherwise your library and your iPod will become useless.

I would not be in too big a hurry to get Vista. For one thing, I don't know if my computer will support it. A lot of people don't. My XP works fine, and we keep the computer clean of viruses & spyware & get up-dates every morning at 3am. I would wait and see how the new system pans out. That's what I'm going to do. If I needed to get a new operating system, I'd get a new XP installation, because with Vista out, the price should come down on the XP.

I would hold off on Vista for several months. I suspect Microsoft is already working on the first Service Pack for Vista.

No, it will not. Your "old files" will be preserved when installing a Windows Vista OS. It will be saved in a folder named by Vista as "Old WIndows". You can access all these files but you won't be able to use your Old OS. Check though the system requirements as there are instances you won't be able to upgrade XP to WIndows Vista say from XP to Windows Starter. Enjoy................

Before you buy VISTA read the article at:

Linux operating systems are excellent. Try out one of the free distributions. My favorite is UBUNTU. You can download it, or order a CD, at

You will also get all the software, that you will ever need, FREE - See

From e/thing that I've heard, DONT upgrade to Vista. It's not needed for the price. In fact will slow your computer down.

If nothing else, please read some reviews on any of the computer trade mag.
