Software - December 2006

ok my computer's been giving quite a lot of crap lately. first the Mcafee personal firewall subscription expires. then the antivirus. and then randomly last night i open a folder and the left side panel with all the quick launch links to other folders like my computer. control panel. the details about selected files. size and how many files selected. that whole part of the window is gone. i thought something changed the view setting so i went to folder options but cudnt find anything to change it back. the worst things is even in recycle bin. because the panel is gone. the button to empty the bin is gone! this is quite a bother. plz help.

ps i found this random thing in my start menu called thriXXX. and 3D Sex Villa inside.had an uninstall so i did. but i did this after the folder panel is gone. then my whole computer kinda froze. i had to do a system restore to the day before. the thriXXX came back. i uninstalled it again.now my computer seems alright. didnt freeze. but wtf was that?

I downloaded Incredimail the other day but it is more trouble than it is worth and am now trying to uninstall it. I am going through the correct stages; Add/Delete program and then, right at the end when I click to uninstall, this pop up box appears with the following message. '' You need to have Administrator or Power user privileges in order to uninstall Incredimail.

For assistance contact your system administrator.

This is my personal computer at home and only I use it, so I suppose I am the above mentioned. Help!

I'm configuring my DELL notebook online and i have the choice of installing Windows XP Home Edition, Windows XP Media Center and Windows XP Professional.
What would you recommend? i have no clue.
Is Media Center a better version of home edition(as in with added resources for media Works) or is it something different that won't perform as good as the home edition (in the case of home users)?
I'm a student, scientific (need a lot of programs) and my mom also needs theese kind of resources.

I have some quick time files that i want to download to my video ipod, but to do that i need them to open as quick time files, and they appear witht he " open with whatever " choice. I figure if i can make quick time my default media player, then it will work..can anyone help?

I already had Adobe 7. I removed this and installed Adobe 8 but I am still being prompted to install Acrobat Reader 5.0. Please help! Thanks

I tried removing anything WERid in my registry, and I've switched back to a restore point. This seemed to have happened after I uninstalled and reinstalled itunes to the lastest version. I saw something called "ntuser" dat file and thought that look werid so I took that out was that it? I updated with Microsoft still not cured... shut down restarted afterwards and as soon as I open explorer it's back to about:blank and in internet options it's been changed to explorer.

I did the ad-aware thing and used another spyware progrom I removed everything it flagged.

I hope you can save me!
