I'm configuring my DELL notebook online and i have the choice of installing Windows XP Home Edition, Windows XP Media Center and Windows XP Professional.
What would you recommend? i have no clue.
Is Media Center a better version of home edition(as in with added resources for media Works) or is it something different that won't perform as good as the home edition (in the case of home users)?
I'm a student, scientific (need a lot of programs) and my mom also needs theese kind of resources.

There is nothing like good and bad among these three.

XP Home is light weight but less security
XP Prof is heavy with more security
Media is again Windows XP only, that supports entertainement to its best

Home edition if just fine... All of the media stuff that you want to do, can be done with XP Home... you would be adding other software anyway. So use that $30 to buy other media software and conversion programs.

For single computer use, XP Pro is a waste of money.

Good luck and Happy Computing!

Windows XP Media Center if you want to use your computer as a television / video.
Windows XP Professional if you want a normal computer.

Media Center has a lot of advanced features locked.

If you want an OS for personal use, then Home edition is undoubtedly too good. No need to spend extra bucks on others.
