A friend's Win2000 laptop bit the dust and he bought a new Vista machine. I successfully recovered the hard drive via a USB device and attempted to upload the files in c:\documents and settings\ to a folder on his new machine for retrieval. I was met with "access denied".

A dialog came up basically saying "click me to get permission to go here" which resulted in a several-minute apparent effort for the system to open permission which it neither did nor explained its inability to do.

I tried all the tricks in MY book for taking ownership and allowing access but nothing would work EXCEPT re-booting the machine in SAFE MODE where the file transfer was allowed. I do a lot of this kind of thing, and never ran into this with XP; can anyone suggest a more elegant solution? Thanks...

I got an original copy from my office as per office policy and using it on my desktop since I do some work from home too. But my Symantec Antivirus (Version: 10.0.2.2000) is always disabled even clicking on the system tray icon and pushing 'Enable Auto-protect' dosen't help. It quickly swithes back to the disabled mode. Please help.

Since I already have updated it through live update, I would loose it all if I uninstall and reinstall it again. There was a Google updater installing Norton earlier which I removed, is there a connection since both r from the same company??

Please help urgently! Thanks!

Hi
is xp sp2 supposed to have a c:\I386 folder? It's full of html pages I havent visited, error txt from programs and active x controls that were attempted to be loaded but were incompatible and duplicates of driver files, system32 folder, and stuff that seem to have been used to redirect my computer. Is this true?

One of these days I want an IP address that's impossible to ban. NO forum admin or mod can ban me with this.

Tell the truth people!

I've had some saying that there is, and that there isn't.

So what's the real truth? I've heard many accusations on both sides:

Macs do get viruses, it's just that their users fail to accept it.

Macs don't! PC fanboy lies!

Macs can, but just by a small chance.

There are, but they don't hurt Macs as much.

You don't get viruses at all, on any OS, if you just have a good Anti-virus, and are careful what you do on the internet.

NO way! Macs don't get them at all. PC users are just jealous! Hmmph!

So what is it people? What do you think? Do Macs get viruses, or is it just a myth?

I have a Motorola RAZR and I know my "unlock" code but I have no idea what my "security" code is and I'm pretty sure I never set it. I mean, I remember setting my "unlock" code but the "Security" one is obviously a different code and I've tried everything that I would've set it to be and it's nothing of the kind. Any ideas what it could be? Does the company set it, the service provider or did I?

I contacted paypal, since it is a sevice I have NEVER used, and they advised me that this is a phishilng scam, and advised me to forward it to spoof@paypal.com, delete the message & block it. I did this yesterday, and this morning i have 3 more of them as new messages. I checked & they are definately blocked. Why am I still getting this if I have blocked the sender. I feel violated and am thingking of cancelling my yahoo account due to being harrassed by these scam artists. What is a stronger method I can use to deter this?

I don't have internet at home, and would like to download Visual C# 2005 Express Edition SP1. Unfortunatly, the library computer has some restrictions on it that cause about half of the things I want to download to randomly not work. The error messege says to "download to a different place" because "you're not allowed to change the .../temp folder." I was hoping that maybe a proxy would be able to get past this, since I can't go to the options to change where it downloads.
Question: Would a proxy get past this, and
Question: If so, how do I use a proyx?
Thanks

I have Windows XP! I have AVG 7.5 Antivirus Free Edition and AVG Antivirus installed. Are these good, effective, free programs, or is there something better you can recommend. I'm also not sure if any of these programs have Firewall protection or not, which I would like to have. Is Kaspersky any better? Any help would be truly appreciated. Thanks in advance! Have a real nice day!
