Spyware Doctor and Optus Security Suite.
I use them.
They never get old as they update regularly.
If you are with Optus:
They provide a free antivirus program and defender.
Go to optusnet.com.au to find out.
Spyware Doctor: pctools.com
I only trust those (and norton etc.) as the other ones are not major companies.
Major companies are:
Optus
Norton
Avast
Spyware Doctor (It's with google)
etc.

Most people here my say that AVG is 'so great' becuase it is free and popular. The thruth is the best AV is Kaspersky and AntiVir... Now AntiVir does a great free edition of their great product.
It is better than Nortan and AVG becuase:
#1 It is free. (Always good.) =]
#2 It has a superb detection rate, up in the high 80%s
While Nortan has 40% is you are lucky and AVG has
an average of about 72%.
#3 AntiVir updates easily. (No more Nortan sh*t).
#4 Scans are much faster than AVG and Notan.
#5 With the better detection rate, as seen above there is more chance of finding the virus or trojan and then removing it from your system.
Use this link to get the download.
http://www.download.com/Avira-AntiVir-PersonalEdition-Classic/3000-2239_4-10690040.html?tag=lst-0-1
And also:
#6 Becuase I have tried it and I am very impressed by its protection.
Really... Everyone should use it... The only bad thing is that-about one time in a week you will get a pop up advvertising the paid product.... Byt it is worth it.

Avg is a good free anti virus you can also use avast4 home for free from avast.com you just download it and register it they mail you a key and you renew the key every year but its free for home users and updated often. Before you download and install either of these pieces of software though I would remove norton from your computer first then scan the computer with avasts free online scanner and again with trend micros free online scanner before installing any other virus software. Trend takes awhile to scan your computer online but making sure you are clean after using something like norton that only gives you limited updates once in awhile during your subscription is ALWAYS a good idea so is checking with more than one scanner even though you cannot allow them both to run in the background at the same time you can install one to run all the time and turn it off now and again and scan free at both avast and trendmicro for extra protection. www.trendmicro.com you are looking for the free scan link. This is for those of you that think going with the major manufacturers is the best option most virus is written with those major anti virus software in mind....it is never ever best to just use one anti virus software and norton and mcaffee are the last two on earth I would use as a resident scanner on my system or as a back up scanner you are just asking for trouble. While free software isnt perfect its updated often and you can check and recheck with more than one program without putting a bunch of junk on your system like norton does. I personally use avira antivir guard as a fulltime scanner and both trendmicro and avast as backup scanners and sometimes just to be triple sure I sometimes go to panda too you can scan find and edit the garbage out of your registry if you take the time to check with all 4 its your best chance to find and get rid of the garbage before you crash. All the major companies have in mind is the little guys money and they all answer to the other major company...ie microsoft.

Hi - If you decide to opt for an alternative to Norton you will have to use the 'Norton Removal Tool' (A piece of software from the Norton website) to ensure complete removal. Just removing it through 'Add/Remove Programs' will still leave a load of junk behind.
I'm pro AVG free.

AVG - used it for past 5 years or so apart from 2 months last year when I installed McAfee to my regret.
Once I had installed McAfee everything went on a go slow and some things just point blank refused to work. I spent months in regular discussions on-line (good chat service) only to be told to uninstall and re-install following printed instructions that needed a technicians expertise to carry out. I eventually had to uninstall my whole OS and lost many files in the process as for various reasons I couldn't back up.
McAfee? - Never again! AVG? - No trouble.

I gave up on Norton many, many years ago. Have been using AVG's free service since 2004 and haven't had a single major virus catastrophe yet (knock on wood). So, as everyone else has recommended, use their free version.

As all others have said AVG. You won't get better. McAfee and Norton might appear good but clash with so much. You will have to uninstall Norton first though as it won't let you use AVG otherwise.
