If I take out the platters from an electronically damaged hard disk drive and put them inside of a working drive [different capacity, model & maybe different brand], is it possible for it to properly function, at least until recovering data?
Or it needs to be an identical unit to the one I take out the platters from?

Ok, when i start my Laptop, It gets stuck on the microsoft windows xp blue screen, also i noticed my battery does not charge, but does that have anything to do with starting my computer even if i have the electric plug connected, all this happened after i uninstalled windows blind and restarted the computer, now it does not completely start, do you have any solution to fix this, i dont have the reboot disk for my xp, i was thinking about buying a new windows xp program, but i dont know if i can install it if it does not completely starts, the only thing i can do when i press the power button is the F2 option(Bios) and the F8(reboot) option but i cant start it on safe mode either, thanks for the help, i will give ten points

Hey guys, I've been trying to install a new pc, but I can seem to get it to turn on. When I first tried it, the power button lit up for a second then went off, and I'm getting no signs of power from anything. I've installed all the right parts and am pretty sure I've gotten everything connected right. I've tried switching power cords and ensuring the connections are not loose, but nothing seems to work. What could be the cause of this? Oh, and I've also tried different power supplies--one that I know works.

my comp..
256 MB of RAM

had it for about 4 years

BUT...it has crashed lots of times and had to be repaired

i also reinstalled windows about 3 times cause of the freezing problem (i thought reinstalling it would help)

i have 2 antivirus's (kaspersky and AVG anti spyware)

2 registry cleaners (registry mechanic and registryfix)

*the last time i got my computer fixed was by these weird computer compony called MS LEASING...they cleaned out my compter by taking off everything like brand new...they SCREWED UP lots of my registry...and i wasnt able to download some programs and had corrupt files in my computer. about a month later it crashed and i reinstalled it myself. it fixed all the corupted files but for some reason my computer kept freezing and became slower than before. so from then it has been acting up. when i reinstall windows its all fast and stuff, but it gets slow after about 1 day* the MS people also messed it up cause...i dont have windows genuine anymore...lost my serial

OK, I need to know what motherboard and operating system you're using and any other problems I should look aout for such as RAM compatability.

I've been looking at upgrading - possibly to an EVGA mobo and a quad core CPU.......and then upgrade to Vista home premium.

This is a PC that has to do everything - act as a TV, DVD player, games machine, word processor, graphic design/ media editor and of course, music player.

I'm currently running a P5N-E SLI mobo (which doesn't support more than 2Gb of RAM as claimed by ASUS - system won't boot....locks up at POST and can't enter BIOS) 2Gb Kingston Value RAM, e6420 Core 2 Duo overclocked @ 20%.

Your knowledge and help will be much appreciated

Hello, I might have lost my old computer since I have a new one and my uncle thought that the old one was no longer needed. So, he took the computer out to the ranch and used it for target practice. There are three half-inch bullet holes in the pc that he managed to get before I stopped him.

Is there a way to get my old pc fixed or is it too late? I am not joking so please answer.

I'm shopping around for computer parts, and I think I have settled on an EVGA 680i TR version motherboard.

http://www.evga.com/products/moreinfo.asp?pn=122-CK-NF63-TR&family=20

My question is this - the board says it comes with 2 pci E x16 slots, and one pci E x1 video sli expansion slot.
Does that mean that if I run two matched cards in SLI mode, they will both still run at 16x ? Or is the 1x expansion SLI slot going to run one card way slower than the other?

Thanks for the help :)

My motherboard has space for 20 pins and 4 pins, but my new PSU has 24 and 6. Why type should i buy instead?

Also, on the new PSU the +12V stat is split into +12V1 and 12V2. Can you just add them together to work out if it has more +12V power than my old PSU?

A Pentium 4 3.2 GHz (Dual Core) 935 (2MBx2) 800FSB or a
Intel Core 2 Duo E4300 1.8 GHz (2MB) 800FSB?

Now, I'm totally perplexed by these two processors, the Pentium 4 specs is pretty good,
but I know that Intel Core 2 Duo is the latest processor by Intel. I live here in the Philippines
and their price is actually just a 100 Php difference - P4 3.2 GHz (5800Php or around 126.09$ in here)
Intel Core 2 Duo 1.8 GHz (5700Php or around 123.91$ in here ) [1$=46Php]

I know that The Core 2 Duo is fast enought to run Sonar 6, Pro Tools or some other heavy programs
but the Pentium 4 is pretty good also... Can you please choose for me so I can buy what's the best (I
know the 2 is best for me) but I just need 1... Please give me reasons also why that processor is more
better to pick. Thanks guys!

I have an 120mm intake on the bottom front.
two 80 mm blowing out in the middle of the case, on the left side (facing front). One is blowing out right below the video card, the other below my Zalman 9500 (which doesn't blow out to left--if facing front of case--but rather toward my other 80mm rear exhuast fan). I'm running kind of hot, (55 C idle in BIOS) why I ask

I'm using a Zalman 9500, 3 80mm fans, 1 120mm fan. I think it may be the thermal compound. I removed my heatsink/fan without applying new compound (can't remove zinc oxide, any tips?)

I reinstalled windows xp on a used dell dimension I bought on ebay. After installing windows, I could not connect to the internet. This could be a dumb question but I don't claim to be computer savy by any means. Do I need to install a network card? If there is a place on the back of the tower to connect an ether net cable, does that mean it has an integrated network card? I tried to set up a connection with the install wizard but I get no where! "Computers 101 for dummies" anyone?
