It doesn't really have much to do with the OS you use. (except min req for vista is 1gb ram)
If you play alot of games then i would suggest 2GB or more. If you just play an odd game and use it mostly for office perposes then theres absolutly no need to go for more than 1gb, Although 2GB is obviously better. And if you want you computer (and vista) to run as best it can then go for 2GB.

2gb Of memory is a good thing to have these days. Many applications and games are using more and more memory, so the more the better. The minimal on Windows Vista Premium that I would suggest would be 1 or 2gb.

Vista premium is a memory hog. Its aero glass feature demanding just as much or more than the rest of all its other features combined. 1 gig is all that is needed if you dont install that feature and of that one you'll still have enough to run your other programs!

Both of my Vista systems seem to idle at about 750 to 800 megs. That would only leave about 200 megs to run applications. In todays computing world, that's not enough. I installed 2 gigs in both and they are running very fast and stable, with no "swap filling" at all.

The min. required is 1gb.
However since Vista sucks and is such a resource hog, playing at the min. will make it run slow. Upgrade your RAM as much as you can.
