Laptops & Notebooks - December 2007

What if I order a Dell Inspiron 1420 notebook now, the said preliminary ship date is 12/28/2007 (more than two weeks).
What is the estimated date for me to recieve my order?

What does the preliminary ship date really means? Can somebody elaborate it more clearly. And why has Dell moved its preliminary shipped date more than 2 weeks from now? The preliminary ship date is usually 2 weeks from the date of order. This info can be seen in their site.

Hey guys i need help. Im going to india in two days and need to buy a laptop so i cant buy it online becuase it would take to long. I also need wireless interent connection. Can someone please suggest a good laptop that is cheap and a store that would sell cheap laptops that have wireless interent connection. Also if i have wireless internet on a laptop in the US can i use it india too? Thanks in advance.

I want to buy a laptop and I found one with above specs, and has a 2 GB Ram , chipset of 945. Higher specs than this are more expensive. So if this is enough, maybe I will buy this.

I had my first HD for about 3 months before it started to sound like a popcorn making machine and just crashed. It was under warranty, so I had it replaced. I am now using my new HD and it is already starting to make the same noises again!
Does this grinding DEFINITELY mean my HD will crash soon? If so how long do I have before it goes out?

I have a HP laptop. Does anyone have any ideas on what is going on? I've checked autoscroll but that didn't fix it, though I couldv'e done it wrong. I've rebooted, updated my anti-virus software, it's not my hand tapping on the mouse pad either. I've also reset to original settings, & nothing is working. My laptop worked fine this morning. I downloaded an upgrade to a software and changed my homepage settings today. After that nothing works. If anyone has any ideas on what to try I would really appreciate it!

I am looking for a new laptop. I have that about a MacBook Pro as well as the Dell XPS Notebook. I am a gamer, student, and music junky. I like to make videos sometimes, presentations for school, type papers excessively, etc. What are some pro's and con's and what are your suggestions? Are there any other computers you would suggest?

I want to buy a cheaper computer. It doesnt matter if it's a laptop or a desk computer. As long as they are both equal in quality and up-to-date internet browers and large storage for music, photos, and videos.

I see that computers are cheaper than laptops. Is it because laptops are portable? sO IS BUYING THE HEAVY COMPUTER BETTER?

I do not play many games but I always am playing the simcity games such as editions 2000, 3000 and 4. I've been told by a chat-agent at Dell that I should get a higher-end computer like 1520 or 1521; which seems to be the better for my gaming use.

I have some ideas, and I think I'll go for the 17" screen this time, so its a useful tv in bed too.

I'm going to buy at least a 2.0GHz Core 2 duo with a 4MB cache too.

RAID would be nice.

The BIOS does not detect the HD and startup disc does not work. The laptop was not dropped. :)

How can I found out what kind of Wireless Internet my new laptop supports? I know there's G, N, etc.. and different types of wireless cards. I want to buy a router but I don't know which kind my new laptop supports. It's an HP 6607 TK-53

ok well, I've been using my brother's sony vaio laptop since yesterday and today I noticed the volume buttons on the edge of the laptop stopped working. So, I restarted the laptop and the volumbe buttons were kind of back to normal...but they didn't work as good as they did before. I have no idea what happened to them. anyways, so I restarted it again and now they don't work at all. Also, a pop saying spooler subsystem has enocountered a problem. Following that, the toolbar dissapeared for a couple of secs but then it came back. This toolbar thing has been happening since yesterday. Just now when I was on the internet explorer a pop saying internet explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close showed up. Omg, i am freaking out!!! I am going to be in soooooooooo much trouble from my brother as he isn't going to believe me when I tell him I had nothing to do with it. Please help me and walk me through step by step. atleast help me diagnose. TY!
