If your child will be a heavy user of the laptop, he/she could get Carpal Tunnel syndrome early. Another freebie is neck pain from looking down at the display. Laptops are not ergonomically friendly, thus not ideal for long use. Heavy users of laptop prop up the unit on a special riser or on phone books then add an external keyboard on a tray. This improves ergonomics. They just use the laptop itself when on the go.

Your child most likely does not need mobility. Better stick to a desktop. Desktop graphics are easily upgradeable for better/ up to date gaming. Your child might just be disappointed with a laptop's gaming performance.

One Laptop per Child (OLPC), laptop, if you can get ur hands on one of thoes,

but acer computers are really cheap, they have wireless and webcams build on to the laptop, and they are usually around 500 CDN dollarsish

ok, first of all, if money is not an issue, then go with dell, they can go up to 3k for a good laptop, but if money is an issue, and if the laptop is just for him/her to play with then go with a cheap company.

and stay away from amd cpus, they will run really hot.

first off, DO NOT GET A DELL. worst customer service+worst products=me losing a total of $1900 on 4 laptops.

some good brands for your kid would be acer, gateway, Toshiba, and if you really want top-of-the-line products for him, get a Sony VAIO.

for good deals go to newegg.com, tigerdirect.com, or compusa.com. it is rare to find a laptop that has a built-in web cam, so of you are also looking for a separate web cam, look for Logitech and Creative brands.

STAY AWAY FROM ACER!!!!!!!
They are junk!

I would recommend a Toshiba Satellite.
They are reasonably priced and work.
They have a built in webcam and wireless.
About $1200.
