Laptops & Notebooks - December 2007

I am looking to buy a laptop but not sure what to go for...
*Broadband plug in and wireless needed (not sure if i trust wireless, but if it's there setup maybe i'll use it one day) Medium to heavy usage.
*Budget of £250
*Watch films, listen to music, download (but not loads)
*Website designing/building (This and Internet will be main uses)
those are what i have to consider.

Preferences: I would rather stick to XP, Vista doesn't sound all that good.

I just ordered my MacBook with a 2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 1GB memory, a 120GB hard drive, and a Double-layer SuperDrive. When I bought it, it was way too much money to upgrade to 2GB of RAM, let alone 4GB. ($150, and $850)

It says I could get 2GB of ram for $51, or 4GB of ram for $160.
I don't feel like spending $160 on that, but I will if its worth it. I was just wondering if 2GB is good enough, or should I go with the 4GB?

It was all fine yesterday, then suddenly, I cant start my acer laptop today. I am using windows XP. It start with a check disk for consistency, scanned thru all and reported that no problem found. As normal it goes on to "the windows is starting" and suddenly, I catch a glimpse of a dark blue screen with words I am only able to see "memory" "automatic"... and then it went on to the black screen which says the windows has encounter problem and an option menu of 3 different safemodes, or previous good config, or start normally. So I chose:

Previous good config.: Same problem occurs as when I start it normally. It goes back to the option menu again.

Safemode: It didnt work. It continues on the black screen with a series of paths I do not understand and after a long while goes back to the option menu. The list of path goes something like this: multi(0) disk(0) rdisk(0) partition(0) \windows\ system32\ drivers\ mup (or BDIS or Fastfat or KsecDD there are many)

Please advise.

I want to buy a new computer but im not sure if i should get a laptop and an external harddrive or a new desktop for a price around $1300. My current computer is a Dimension E310 with windows xp with an intel pentium 4 proccessor with 504 MB of RAM. Im not sure what video card i have because i dont know how to find out. I had a sprained ankle, and so I couldn't catch it quick enough, and so it feel about three feet off my bunk bed to the ground. Now I have two whhite vertical lines across my screen, and now I can't play the laptop without the power cord charging it. Did I permanantly damage it? My laptop's a Toshiba, by the way, if that helps anyway.

I'm only 12, and I don't want to get screamed at by my parents that I already wrecked my laptop, after only nearly 2 years of using it. I really, really, need some help here.

What are the main physical differences between a laptop wireless adapter and a desktop one? I think that the ones with an antenna are for laptop only and ones without (just a plug in card) are for desktop?

i have a acer aspire 5570 laptop which i purchased late septemeber 2007
and recently evey time i turn it on it says the message
a disk read error occured...
now i tried starting all over again but it logs on freezes and turns off again...
does anyone know y this is happening

I want to buy a laptop? I would be using it for mostly work but also for gaming. The work I would be doing would be for school but at school they have a pc not mac. However I heard that mac is great for work. So I would like a laptop that has quite big amount of storage for work and gaming. I would also like the laptop to be very fast.
