Good, fast, and cheap - for your lap top? I'm looking for a woman like that....

Seriously, it does not matter that you have a lap top or a desktop or a heavy-duty chassis in mind. What software did you want to run on it?

If Vista is part of the picture, bottom line is you need 1 Gb or more of RAM. 2 Gb wouldn't hurt.

If you are getting a lap top, you won't be able to do much about the screen. So before you make a choice, look long and hard at the display. You'll be looking at it for a longer time once you buy it. If you don't like what you see before you buy it, trust me. You won't like it any better afterwards.

Ditto on using the keyboard. If the keyboard feels cramped now, you won't like it later either.

People sometimes say, "Oh, go ahead, buy it. It'll grow on you." Well, so will mold if you sit still long enough in a swamp, but that doesn't mean it is something you really wanted to do.
