Did you order it from the internet or buy it at a store? What did you look for and how can you tell it's of good quality? How much did it cost?

I have several.

IBM thinkpad T60
Dell D610
HP presario

All are great for what I use them for, some are for my kids some for me and a spare.

I would look for the best features you plan to take advatage of and what fits your budget. Stick with name brands if you can, IE HP, Dell, Lenovo/IBM as they will offer the best support if you have trouble.

With a laptop, if you plan on spending more than 800 I would opt for the service plan/extended warranty as there isn't may serviceable parts on a laptop.

Good luck!!

I own a Toshiba laptop. I bought it at PC world. I bought it in February and I was interested in getting Windows Vista as it had only been out a few weeks and I'm very happy with it. I was looking for good memory and good graphics but it really depends what you want to use it for. If you only want to use it for the Internet then a load of memory and paying through the roof for it may not be necessary! Another thing I find good about shops is that you can see exactly what you're getting and if you have a problem you can go directly to the shop. Also, if you know someone who's into computers (like friends or family) they might be able to help you choose. People in computer shops are generally very helpful too and they know what (or should know!) what they're talking about.

Bought my MacBook from the Apple education store. Works great, Macs are top rated for tech support and battery life. Cost, less than a thousand. And you don't have to worry about 115,000 Windows viruses, in your case destroying the files of baby photos!

I now have a Toshiba Satellite.
Have had several with no problems.
Costs about 1,100.

I bought an Acer as well.
The specs on it were great, but the computer doesn't last more than three months.
Acer has been trying to fix it for eight months now.
Several other people have been having problems with their Acer's.

I have an HP, but i recommend Dell, they have very good service support and if anything ever does go wrong, the parts are easy to get. Go to a store like best buy or call dell and tell them what you want!

Acer
Got it from a local store.
I looked specifically for AMD and what kind of GPU it has.
As for quality, I have owned 2 Acer laptops before and never had problems with them.
payed around 800$

I bought a Toshiba Satellite for around $1500....haven't had a lick of trouble with it....As for Dell...i've had a multitude of problems with them...and when you call for support, they redirect it to someplace in India. I could never understand the guy trying to help me....they also want to randomly charge you for helping you on stupid stuff...I'll never buy another Dell again.
I also recommend Hewlett-Packard...when we called tech support for HP, we got someone in Michigan or something.

Congrats on your baby on the way!
I generally buy Dell laptops from Dell.com. I like their products, pricing, and their support site is excellent.

I got a Macbook. I love it. Mac's are known to not catch any virus...they are just better than any other laptop known. I bought mines online at apple.com. they are expensive but its well worth it. good luck!
