I have a HP laptop. Does anyone have any ideas on what is going on? I've checked autoscroll but that didn't fix it, though I couldv'e done it wrong. I've rebooted, updated my anti-virus software, it's not my hand tapping on the mouse pad either. I've also reset to original settings, & nothing is working. My laptop worked fine this morning. I downloaded an upgrade to a software and changed my homepage settings today. After that nothing works. If anyone has any ideas on what to try I would really appreciate it!
Thanks!

If I were you, I would run every utility I already had and then I would download HiJackThis and contact a forum that can help you by looking more closely at your contents.

Try http://www.d-a-l.com/

They are so very quick and thorough and PATIENT! When they give your their advice - follow it exactly no matter how redundant or how much of a waste of time you may think it is - these guys are so knowledgeable and know that there is a certain order to the way you should clean your system.

Do everything they tell you and remember to report back to them with a thorough account of what you did or didn't do.

Good luck - you seem to have some kind of conflict going on since you say things are having a mind of their own. It could be anything from a simple software or hardware conflict to a destructive Trojan or worm.

since it started after an upgrade try using a restore point to back before the upgrade.

You may have a bad keyboard. Another possibility is if the case is getting bent--like when I use my laptop on my lap--the case may be getting bent and causing the mouse pad to move the cursor.

You could try blowing out the keyboard with canned air to try and clean it. That might help. Or you may have a more serious keyboard or mouse problem.

Good luck.

How is your memory? Sometimes your computer will do screwy things like that if you are using up too much of the memory. My mouse acts weird when I've downloaded a bunch of songs until I transfer the files to my external hd.

My first instinct was a problem with the mouse. Even if you aren't randomly tapping it, it might be malfunctioning. It sounds like it's time to take your computer in for service.

Hello Linny. Yep! I get those sort of problems. Click Start, then all programs, then click Accesories, then system tools, and try disc cleanup, and disc defragmenter. Youv'e got some sort of bug. Happy Christmas.
