Laptops & Notebooks - March 2007

I am trying to make it work for my 12 year old. He needs a computer to do his homework on. It's a Compaq presario 5000 series with windows 98 SE. I have the recovery disk, but whenever I try to impliment it, the computer spits it out. I am a novice but not afraid to try things. help.

I cannot afford to spend the full price of a new laptpop (around 1000 dollars), but I ned one for my freelance work.

I wanted a Dell computer, but they only have lease for businesses?

If you are just an individual, how would you go about leasing a comptuer?

im still a kid so please answer something i can understand :( , im using a toshiba satellite j11 with a trackball and i also bought a new mouse and when i inserted it in the usb port it auto installed (i guess it did). so now im using the pc with 2 cursor controllers and my problem is that it clicks by itself..even though i didnt click it. i play online games and i noticed that my character in the game is walking by itself!! :( and clicking stuff...and right now typing this question is hard because if the cursor is left on top, maybe 10 seconds later, the insertion point will transfer to the place where the cursor points...somebody heeelp! :(

I have an ATI graphics chip for my laptop and I installed the latest omega drivers for them. Whenever I watch video, like winTV I get the frame rate count in the top right corner. It's great that i get 30 frames per second, but I don't need to see it there all the time. I have ATI tray tools and not sure where to turn this function off.

Usually i plug it in and the light turn green and it charges but now the charger is chirping like a cricket and the light won't turn

i have the standard acer out of the box charger and ive been using it seince june.

i have 2 theorys but idk

theory 1. the charger is burnt out and i need to buy a new 1
theory2.the charger has been over used but i normally leave it pluged in all day.

I am wanting to play a presentation that is on my laptop on a TV. I was able to get the video on the TV by using a S-video cable, but how can I get the sound to the TV?

I'm majoring in computer science (not completely geekified yet, just starting towards my degree), but I cannot figure this out. Every evening at precisely 7:48 PM, my laptop computer lets out around ten high-pitched beeps. They're not loud, but if you are near the computer you can hear them. This is regardless of what program I'm using at the time. In case it makes a difference, I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 with Windows XP. There is no error message or dialog box or anything that comes up when it begins to beep. It started about the last week or so. I started having problems with the internal network card at around the same time, could this have anything to do with it?
Why on God's green earth is my computer doing this? What does it mean? How do I get it to stop? It's not particularly bothersome, but just WEIRD!

I was told that disconnecting anything from your USB port without unmounting it or shutting down your computer first, would damage the computer.

It is a Gateway Solo 9550, it is used, and the battery is dead but it can still be used if plugged in. It has no problems other than battery. O ya it has Windows XP home edition, intel pentium 3 processor.

I am purchasing a new laptop, I have £600 to spend. It sole use will be computer games mostly online ones. It must have atlest 1.8ghz processor, 512mb ram, 100+ gb hard drive, 128mb graphic card, a dvd-rw and wireless connectivety

Ok. I saved up my money to $3000 something to purchase a Mac Pro. Note that I am a girl.... Anyway, my other girlfriend was saving her money with me, too. So we decided to buy our laptops the same day. We didn't tell each other what brand Notebooks we were going to buy; we simply went ahead and purchased our notebook on our own... a week later, at college, we saw each other in class. I took out my Mac Pro and showed it to her. She said, " That's awesome." I said, " what you got?" Then she showed me a Dell XPS M 1710 Red Formula notebook. I said, " That's nice, but Mac doesn't get viruses." then she said, " Yeah, that's why I have McAfee."
My processor is 2.33GHz. Hers is the same, but she has Nvida Geforce go 7950 GPU. Her notebook plays audio louder and more powerful than mine. Her screen revolution is clear and more crispy than mine, and her DVD movies player better than mine. She plays very awesome games too. And the lights on her notebook are so attractive. Should I be Jealous

I have a RCA HDTV Monitor and I was wondering if I could connect it to my laptop. The laptop is a Dell Inspiron 2200.
I've read around a bit and my TV has S-Video (one is taken by the DVD player) but my laptop I'm PRETTY sure doesn't.
Anyway, I don't really get what others are saying so I thought I'd ask myself.

I just got this new laptop and I was trying to take the stickers off. I peeled the stickers, but that goo glue stuff was left behind. I tried using a hair dryer to remove it, but that was stupid. Whatever heats up, has to cool down. Now I have this goo glue that won't come off my laptop. I would use something like a knife or whatever, but I'm afraid it will scratch it. Can someone help?
