Depends on your taste. Alien, maybe Apple (Mac). HP/Compaq is often overrated, but it works.

The more expensive brand is usually good =O

Whatever you do avoid Sony Vaio like the plague. I bought one and have hated every minute.

Everything is wrong with it, from the freakin screensaver turning on to the error messges and it runs slow.

The hard drive burnt out in less than a year, and they made me wait 3 weeks to replace it and I had 100x the troubles with the new drive.
And worse!!! 100's of my photos, poof!!!

I worked for IBM and their computers were great, but expensive.

My husband's Gateway works like a dream so far so I'm going to buy one of those, even though I should have to buy another computer after 1.5 years. I won't buy another Sony product for as long as I live.

They have a great deal on a Gateway package at Costco. They also had a great one at Best Buy. Sold out everywhere so I called Gateway direct and we created one custom. Sounds frightening, but it isn't.... just go to their website and click the buttons for what you want and don't want.

Now I have a MUCH better version of the computer I saw in Best Buy for not that much more $$.

that si all a matter of personal preference. Avoid Dell and stay away from those damn EMachine cheap junk excuses for a computer. I personally build my own so if you know someone that can do it if you dont then this is the best option since you will build what you want and not pay for extras you dont need. If you do buy one then HP seems to have the best service etc.

the best brand is Ibm , but they are really expensive and not many places carry them I think you have to buy them on line. I have had one for 10 years now still running strong.
But I bought a laptop was going to go with sony, but consumer reports said they had problems lately so went with toshiba, and I am very happy. The biggest think you need to know is not to get the minum specs. if it is 556 I thnk that is minumum. I would stay away from dell. but compare what is in you low priced models with something a little higher Priced. stay in the middle somewhere.

Windows HP isn't the most popular, but it's very reliable. I've trusted Windows all my life. It's a Windows HP that allows me to be typing this message right now. If you're looking for something fancy, cool, or high-tech, Dell. I used to be addicted to their keyboards, I'd type on them for hours. They also have other features, but they cost more than an HP. I am sticking w/ Windows, though. See ya lat-ah

I like HP. Easy to buy, setup, use and good support. You can buy a an extended warranty support too. If something breaks, send it in and they will fix it.

Depends entirely upon the use. A Dell is as good or better than other entry level computers.
