Is there any way that I can save files from an old hard drive to a new hard drive if the old hard drive is fried? I can't access Windows XP on it.

You can get an adapter at Bestbuy that will let you plug a hard drive into a USB port. It's a lot easier than installing it in the computer. You might or might not be able to get to the files on the old drive. It depends on what was wrong with it.

Yes, I might be able to get your files but it ain't easy. Try this first. Install your old HD as slave on the computer. Then you should be able to view your files in Windows Explorer.

Chances are, it's just your boot sector that's corrupted.

Set it as slave inside of another computer and try fdisk-ing it or try simply to access it from whichever hard drive still has a working OS.

most pc's allow you to put two or more hard drives in.
as long as one is set to master the other to slave.

once that is set up you can move files between drives, if you need to
