My system started shutting down randomly and Asus Probe indicated the processor was overheating. I bought a new fan and heatsink and installed both fine. Same problem. Any suggestions where I should look next? Also, is there a free program out there that would be better at helping me diagnose this problem? Thanks in advance! =)

I replaced a Dell Optiplex 4600 Powersupply and it only the cpu fan came on. I found it was not the correct power supply for the unit. I have found the proper replacement and wondered if theres a significant probability that the first non-Dell power supply damaged anything. Should I order the proper power supply and if i do will the system be ok?

I changed the power supply from 250 watt to 500 watts, but after I changed it, only the light that powers the fan comes on and the light that tells me the pc is booting up doesn't come on at all like it usually does. The new power supply had a 12v connector, and the last one didn't. The motherboard had a socket that fit perfectly with the 12v connector, but I think when I connected it, it might have caused a motherboard short circuit. Would this be the cause? Is there any way to repair it now? if that socket wasn't for the 12v connector, what would it be for then? sorry if this is alot of questions and thanks for any helpful advice.
