I'm trying to rip (lossless) my immense CD collection to my hard drive and its pretty slow, what is the best CD drive for this?

Hey, I've recently got a Dell Inspiron 9400 from my dad's workmate. When I got it, I was able to change the volume with the buttons on the front and the level would be displayed on the screen.

The computer had a lot of spyware on it so when I uninstalled that I seem to have uninstalled the ability to see my volume changes on the screen. The computer doesn't have the microsoft volume thing in the system tray either so I have no idea whether I'm muted or loud until I hear audio.

It's really annoying. Can anybody help me?

I am just in the process of building a modded home media system.

I am using a micro ATX board and all the usual cards etc you would expect, including a digital display.

What i would like to do as the final touch is fit a volume control knob to the case. I have looked high and low, but carnt find anything on how it is done.

Can anybody help ??

I'll start up by stating the situation.
On a new (3 month old) packard bell imedia 5020 i had two partitions. The first one being ubuntu feisty , the second one being vista home premium. I loved both. Because i screwed up ubuntu I booted into vista. Installed acronis boot manager, formatted the first partion to ntfs and rebooted. Grub bootmanager gave me error 22 (logical, since I deleted ubuntu ) I usually use super grub disk to repair windows mbr. However i was unable to boot any cd's (yes the bios was set up to boot from cd and i used f8 and choose cd to boot more than once). No cd's would boot (including ubuntu feisty, linux mint cassandra, plos2007, gparted live cd, super grub disk, xp).
I then installed another cd-rom from an old computer. This time instead of ignoring the cd and going straight to the hard drive thus giving grub error 22), the screen remains black. When i pull out the cd, the hard drive loads and gives the grub error.

Hi well i have a XFX 8800 gtx my motherboard is capable of sli and i'm interested in buying 2 8800 gt KO in other words i want to go sli but i want to know if i would see an improvement in fps and also i want to know the size of the cards if it is the same size as a 8800 gts 320mb then it's allright but if it's bigger then i would have a problem also i got a power supply of 600 wats with 2 pci express conectors i would like to know if it is enough for the 2 videocards. well thanks.

My printer just got new black and colour ink cartridges and now my printer isnt printing properly, The pictures come out blue and or purple. I tried the nozzle alignment and print head tests but nothin happens after it prints out the page. The colour is off and all of the squares (A to K) arent looking right but I dont know how to adjust this. Does anybody know how to help? Thanks!

pentium d, 1 gig mem, sapphire radeon 1650.....

its a gaming machine but the games don't work (everything else does-so far). I've updated the video and sound cards, and windows. I simply don't know what else I could do. Games aren't *that* important to me, but Second Life is, as I am a content creator there.
Things like Half Life: Lost Coast and SLife crash with no error message (save a send crash report), and they crash randomly, between 0-and 15 minutes of game use- usually crashes within the first 5. Any clues?

Hi frens,
There is one idiot in my firm, he has disabled all USB ports and went.
Can someone plzzz tell me how to enable it back.
I tried changing values to 3 from 4 in regedit. still no go.

In fact in device manager USB port is not listed at all.
How can i solve this problem plese tell,

We have a desktop pc downstairs that is hooked up to a router. We have a work laptop that we use all of the time in the same location where we now have our newest personal laptop. The problem is that the wireless keeps disconnecting radomly, but usually after a couple of hours of non use. Then I have to restart the laptop and try to connect 2-3 times before it is successful. It does connect, but it says limited connectivity, but the strength is excellent. We have tried the work computer again in the same location and do not have the same problem with it. The only difference between the work laptop and the new one is the new one is an Acer brand, and it has a wireless mouse; but I even tried to not use the wireless mouse and I still have this problem. Oh and finally, we also have a wireless printer on the desk behind it, but again the main pc with the router is downstairs. 10 points to whoever suggests anything that works. :-)

I'm looking at having to buy my first personal computer for school. Since DELL is offering discounts to students through my online school, I was considering buying one from them. Only thing is that I've heard a lot of complaints about DELL computers and the service also. My neighbor had a DELL that cost like $1500$; she says it was a horrible system and sold it. She could only get like $500 for it. I've also had a couple other people tell me that DELL sucks. I was wondering if DELL systems or really that bad. I can get a processor setup for all my school needs with a 1 year service contract for $275, through the school of course. After hearing all the complaints about their customer service and their actual systems from various people, I'm wondering if the discount is really worth the hassle. Should I buy from them or spend more and get one from Compaq or some other company?
