Core2 handles more instructions per clock cycle.
Core2 runs up to 1333 mhz fsb. Pentium 4 uses 533-800mhz fsb.
Core2 Duo usually has 65W TDP. Pentium 4 has 89-115W (Prescott) and 82-89W (>3ghz Northwood).

- Core 2 uses a dual core design, which essentially functions like two processors. Pentium 4 is single-core.

- Core 2 Duo uses what is called a 65nm process, whereas P4 uses a 90nm process (Core 2 Quad uses a 45nm process). Essentially, what this means is that the processor can do more work with less space. This results in less power consumption.

- Less power consumption = less heat.

- Some P4 processors use socket 478 or 423, which means that they are not upgradeable because the new processor would use socket 775. Like a square peg in a round hole. Some P4s do use socket 775.
