I am just in the process of building a modded home media system.

I am using a micro ATX board and all the usual cards etc you would expect, including a digital display.

What i would like to do as the final touch is fit a volume control knob to the case. I have looked high and low, but carnt find anything on how it is done.

Can anybody help ??

Media (Amp Style) Boxes have a volume control, so it must be possible to fit...somehow. I am using this case as i wanted to get the 'midi hifi ' look rather than the 'amplifer look http://www.phoronix.com/forums/showthread.php?t=217

But, you can see from this example http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?SIL-LC16MB it must be possible as these systems only work from a convential motherboard being installed, and the volume control must fit somewhere.

I don't think it can be done since the volume on a computer is not controlled by a "knob". It's a program setting within the operating system.

Speakers however can be and are controlled by a volume "knob". That would be the only way I know of to control the volume on your computer.

some sound cards have an extra bit of hardware that slots into a spare CD drive slot, they also include a volume control.
You can also get a remote control bit of hardware kit that has lots of controls via the remote, including volume control.
Creative do one on there web site,. note ive had lots of problems with creative sound card, customer service is rubbish. But you could get lucky and get hardware that is not faulty. I returned ,my faulty sound card three times, only to be sent out another faulty sound card. Had to exchange it in a shop, before I got a working sound card. crappy eh?
