Sometimes when I shut down my computer it will automatically restart. I have done a virus check, used my window washer, defraged my system. I have no idea what's wrong.

When I was working on my computer last night, I had to leave it alone for a few minutes to do something else, when I came back to finish what I was doing it had already gone into the sleep mode, than when I tried to wake it up, the screen came up for a couple of seconds than changed back to a black screen, almost as if it was going back to sleep. But I could just barely make out what was on the screen, but not enough to do anything. Tried shutting everything down and rebooting everything, but nothing, turned the screen off than on again, comes on for a short second than goes black again. Connections are all okay. Not sure if maybe my monitor has bit the big one or not, or if something is on my computer itself doing this.

I was pretty much ready to fire it out the door last night.

So, anyway that's my problem. If anyone has any suggestions they would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

Ok, my problem is with a new computer i just got. I think it is a hardware issue and looking for help to pinpoint the problem. The computer boots ok, but at random times it will lock everything up and then make diagonal lines on the monitor. I have to do a hard restart and it will load up again. But this is happening more and more frequently. Please help. I am wondering if it might be a motherboard short or something. The video card is an on board video card if that helps.

Here's what has happened. Hard drive on laptop got fried and Best Buy replaced the hard drive because it was still under warranty. Customer had singned the service contract when he dropped it off, to NOT BACK UP ANY DATA. First question is, what do they do with the fried hard drive? Do they send it to the manufacturer and what do they do with it? Second where or if any is there any privacy laws on when the customer specifically said not to extract nor back up any files? I'm talking pictures, videos, any files that has to do with papers that have been written for college, etc? When the fried hard drive is replaced with a new one, what is the protocal with the old hard drive? Do they destroy it?

i have an XFX 650i ultra mobo that comes with nvidia ntune software that can fine tune all aspects of the hardware to run faster yet stable. im actually running now in the background and it already shows a 17% increase in the pci-e bus speed.

is this really a safer way than playing with the bios settings? i have an expensive (MASSIVE) cpu heatsink so it can be kept cool. it runs about 45c under load, but the thermal paste has not completely spread yet (this is a brand new system).

I have TomTom 6 software and a Bluetooth GPS receiver, which I want to use on my Samsung Q1 tablet. The receiver pairs up with no problem, but I'm pretty sure I need some kind of emulator to get the software working. At the moment it refuses to install, as it's designed to install onto a synced PDA.

Any help to get this working would be appreciated.

Is it redundant to have a 2GB DDR2 RAM 800MHz SDRAM Memory compared to a 2GB DDR2 RAM 667MHz SDRAM Memory for a Intel Core 2 Duo Processor E6550? Or is it the higher MHz, the better?

I've done SO much research without much luck, that I'm ready to throw the laptop that I don't have yet, out of the window. Can someone with some laptop knowledge, help?

I've looked at Vaio's, Toshiba's, Dells, Gateways, Alienware, HP and on and on. I'd like 2G of RAM and 160G hard drive. Screen size doesn't matter. It's not a replacement desktop.

I'd like one that's well-rounded, does a little of everything, preferably have Word, good wireless card and good battery life, standard drives, DVD, CDRW etc.

The price hasn't been set at this point, although Alienware is a little too pricey after adding the bells and whistles.

I've looked at all the top PC Mags, whose views seem to differ from the publics'...more confusion. So don't send me to those please. I'd rather someone with knowledge and someone who has owned a few and can share their experiences can help. If you can, you'll definitely have earned the10 points!

Thanks!

I am re-asking this question due to some of the answers I have already received. Let me say first off that I do regular maintenance on this piece of crap......delete cookies, temp files, run RegCure to keep my registry clean, run Norton (another piece of junk), etc, so please, don't blame the "user". Perhaps I have picked a lemon in the garden of computers. Any takes on Dell? For those of you who already answered, thanks. A couple of you agree with me, others "blamed" me, which is why I am reposting this question. I was just curious if anyone else shared my opinion of the Compaq P.

Though ZIP drives and few other special devices are currently there for mass storage, they can't be used universally in all computers with ease.
