Are you referring to an upgrade of your camera's memory card? If so, then the pictures that are presently on the 512mb card will remain on the 512mb card - they won't be lost when you switch memory cards, but they also won't remain in the camera.
You can transfer the photos from your camera memory card to a computer by connecting the memory card to your computer with a USB adapter cable, then copying the photos to your computer's hard drive and/or writing them to CD.
If instead, you are asking what will happen to photos already on your computer when you upgrade your computer memory, the answer is nothing. The photos (and all other files on the computer) are stored on the hard drive, and adding a memory module will not affect them at all.

You should be able to upgrade memory without damaging data, but backing up first is never a bad idea.
The sort of disc you can copy the photos to depends on the type of drive. Turn the computer so you can see the CD/DVD drive, and read the fine print. If necessary use a flashlight & magnifying glass. Or read the paperwork you got with the computer. Or post the model name and number. Or check the mfgr's website.

This upgrade has nothing to do with what's saved on your hard drive. (This all has to do with like "virtual memory" which is deleteable memory from daily usage.) What it effects is the old stats. They'll change to new readings like 1.0MB. Also, you should change\enlarge your caching ability.

No, your graphics as well as all of the rest of your data is stored on the hard drive, not in the ram.

No. All your pictures will be safe because they are stored on the hard drive.

no. because all the pictures, documents, games and other applications are saved in youe hard disk, not on your ram... so it is ok to upgrade your ram to 1gb. =)
