technically how does motherboard send signal to power supply to turn itself off when you shutdown.
And when I remove power supply from mother board and system, plug it in to power yet it was not turning on. The CPU power button might be touching one or several pins of the power supply to turn on. What are these pins???

I am refereing to an ATX system.

I would like to know this for troubleshooting purposes.

I'm leaning on either Intel Core 2 Duos or AMD Athlon 64 X2. I hear Intels are much more better but when I check them up, they are more expensive.

So far the low-ends are

Intel Core 2 Duo 4300

vs

AMD Athlon 64 X2 3600+

is the 4300 REALLY that much different to justify it's extra $50 (really tight budget here).

If anyone has any other budget processor suggestions (multi-core preferred), please say it

My DVD drive won't recognize SOME DVDs. I bought 2 new packs of DVDs, one -R and other +R. About 10 out of 30 +R were recognized, and about the same number of -R. What can I do to fix this?

My drive is: HL-DT-ST DVDRRW GWA-4166B
Firmware Version: 1823
Capabale of reading/burning: +R,-R,+RW,-RW

I want to replace my AMD sempron 3200+ processer (1.80 ghz) with a Pentium 4 HT processer (2.80 ghz) both are in my motherboard, could they just pop out? and be replaced? there is no latch on them either to unlock them, any ideas?

-both are desktops, the pen 4 came from a HP motherboard and the AMD comes from a compaq motherboard-

I've Heard of Quad-SLI systems, but I havent heard of there being able to be a Tri-SLI... Yah see... Im building a computer for someone who is working with AutoCAD, and I dont want to dissapoint, and his system will allow 3 Nvidia 8800 Ultra's (I.e enough PCI-Ex16 ports) just wondering if it was possible! I'm torn between buying a Mac or a PC. I've heard that Macs have awesome reliability and are just overall easy and fun to use. I have been a Windows PC user my entire life; Windows is flexible but annoying. There are two things that hold me back from buying a Mac: one, the fact that I use a lot of software that is Windows-only. For example, I bought Adobe CS2 a few years ago for Windows on an academic license (fairly expensive even still) and use it to edit a lot of my artwork (and create digital artwork). I also purchased Macromedia Dreamweaver--I have a personal website I maintain. I also like to download all sorts of random programs and utilities around the internet (which probably contribute to the death of my Windows computer, but I enjoy myself). I also happen to be a gamer. Now I know Macs can run Windows natively, but that brings me to the second thing that holds me back, price. Why buy a Mac if it sounds like I'm going to be doing mostly everything on Windows?
