can anyone tell me what is wrong with my tower ? it won't let me play/burn cds, download new software. can't even play cds on the windows player.

Check first if it is detected in BIOS. If not, check if properly installed. Follow this guide:

If it is detected in BIOS but does not work in Windows, your OS could be corrupted. If Win XP, try this repair solution:

Then use Nero software for burning.

also could be a hidden virus, try running start- run - chkdsk this will find errors and fixes some, the main use of scan is for hardrive
